9 September 2026 at 17:05

Nvidia-Hugging Face deal could require an enterprise AI rethink

4 September 2026 at 17:03

IT industry experts and analysts are still trying to piece together Nvidia’s surprise plan to pay $12.9 billion for open-source AI company Hugging Face.

Nvidia dominates AI with its GPUs, and the company generates billions of dollars in revenue through a proprietary approach to the fast-moving technology. Hugging Face, on the other hand, hosts open models and has been a neutral player between chip vendors and model labs.

“This is about Nvidia having more say in how the stack gets built,” said Stephanie Walter, analyst at Hyperframe Research.

Hugging Face is wildly popular with developers, and Nvidia is buying early influence with that crowd. “You have a better chance of being part of the production environment later,” Walter said, adding that she wasn’t sure how Nvidia reached a nearly $13 billion price tag for the acquisition.

“Hugging Face has near-uncontested market primacy over where developers go for open-weight model releases. Now Nvidia owns that,” said Mark Petty, senior director analyst at Gartner.

Nvidia’s chase for developers should force IT decision-makers to review how much of the AI stack they control, said Hector Liu, director of Institute of Foundation Models’ Silicon Valley Lab. IFM is part of the Abu Dhabi-based Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence.

Liu said CIOs should ask themselves three questions: “Can you run the model on hardware you already have, without a dependency you didn’t choose? Can you see how it was built?” And, “is the license one you can build a business on?

“A model that passes all three is durable, no matter who buys whom next year,” Liu said.

IFM’s latest K2 Horizon model, which was introduced on the same day Nvidia’s deal was announced, is hosted on Hugging Face. The open model was built to answer all of those questions.

K2 Horizon runs on AI hardware from Nvidia, AMD, Cerebras, and major cloud providers, said Liu, who doesn’t expect that to change. “Nvidia has said Hugging Face stays an open platform for every builder and every accelerator, and we’ll take that at face value,” Liu said.

Nvidia pledged to maintain Hugging Face’s hardware and model independence, and said its compute won’t be required.

Even so, Nvidia isn’t paying nearly $13 billion for a model repository, said Jake Newfield, CEO at Hermetiq — it’s buying the front door to open AI.

(Hermetiq develops AI build and code observability tools.)

AI-generated output is becoming abundant and the infrastructure that makes it testable, reproducible and deployable is becoming strategically valuable, Newfield said. “Nvidia can accelerate it with capital and compute, but the real test is operational neutrality,” he said.

That involves assessing whether competing hardware remains equally supported across the tooling, benchmarks and deployment paths developers actually use, Newfield said.

Beyond distribution, Nvidia is also buying Hugging Face for data, Petty said. That data showed that agents overtook humans as its largest traffic source in July, the kind of insight that could prove valuable down the road.

“Every model pulled tells Nvidia what the market wants next,” Petty said.

Nvidia has every reason to grow demand for open models and to keep them cheap, Petty said. “That’s good for enterprises, as it prevents market consolidation around a small number of proprietary model owners,” Petty said.

Closed and open models will coexist and lead to a world “where you’re going to continue to train these models and run these models at scale,” Justin Boitano, Nvidia’s vice president for Enterprise AI, said in a press conference after the deal’s announcement.

Nvidia will benefit “through the training that’s done and the inference that’s done on our hardware as models get diffused into the ecosystem at scale,” Boitano said.

That’s one motivation to keep the ecosystem open and neutral, so “developers can work wherever they want to work,” Boitano said.

Open source makes AI more accessible by lowering the barriers to experimentation and adoption, said Jon Carvill, senior vice president of marketing at AI chip maker Nuvacore. “Bringing Nvidia and Hugging Face closer together should help accelerate that choice, access and innovation,” Carvill said.

But there are still unanswered questions around whether Hugging Face will remain open and how much proprietary control Nvidia might exert, said Jack Gold, principal analyst at J. Gold Associates.

Microsoft traveled a similar path with its acquisition of open-source repository GitHub, which “did not really pan out as well as Microsoft hoped,” Gold said. “With Nvidia’s acquisition, will it still be as open to competitive hardware-software access, or will there be some barriers employed?”

Nvidia lets you build your own AI clusters locally with PAIR software

4 September 2026 at 15:00

Nvidia has released a free tool that will enable users to build an AI inferencing cluster from disparate PCs on the same network, accessible from a single interface.

Released as a beta, Nvidia Personal AI router (PAIR) connects devices running Windows, macOS or Linux to process AI inferencing workloads privately.

While the system is aimed primarily at home users, it could find favour with enterprises looking to put idle desktop compute capacity to use.

PAIR works with DGX Spark desktop supercomputers, PCs containing RTX GPUs, and some MacOS devices. The systems in the cluster run tasks in parallel, but PAIR does not turn them into a virtual GPU, Nvidia said.

The beta version of Nvidia PAIR is available for download now.

NVIDIA confirms RTX Spark configurations and availability: First devices expected to begin shipping as soon as next month, with two N1X configs on offer

NVIDIA has confirmed new details and availability info about its upcoming RTX Spark SoC for Windows 11 devices. At IFA 2026, the company announced that it expects the first RTX Spark laptops to begin shipping as soon as next month, sometime in October depending on the OEM. Additionally, two new devices are joining the launch lineup; the Lenovo Yoga 9n laptop and Acer SFF desktop PC.

Alongside availability news, NVIDIA has also confirmed configuration details for the upcoming RTX Spark chips. There will be two different configurations of the RTX Spark N1X, with configurable RAM and storage based on what OEMs wish to offer. The high-end RTX Spark will be targeted at desktops and laptops, with support for up to 128GB unified memory, 20 CPU cores, and 6144 Blackwell RTX cores.

There will also be a less powerful RTX Spark configuration exclusively for laptops, which can only be configured with 24GB or 32GB unified memory, a 5120-Core Blackwell RTX GPU, and an 18-core CPU. While still a high-end chip, this should allow RTX Spark to ship in laptops that cost closer to $2,000, significantly lower priced than the high-end SoC.

NVIDIA reinforces itself as an AI-first company nowadays with an almost $13 billion acquisition of Hugging Face

If you're not a keen follower of the AI space, then the name Hugging Face may not mean anything to you. But the company has just been acquired by NVIDIA, which continues to reinforce its new identity as an AI company.

Announced today by NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, Hugging Face will be joining the company in an acquisition priced at just under $13 billion.

Hugging Face is an open platform that has been likened to GitHub, except for local, open AI models that anyone can use. NVIDIA's plans are to keep Hugging Face the same as it is today but to scale. Because if you're not scaling AI these days, what are you even doing?

"Hugging Face will remain an open platform for the entire AI ecosystem. Developers will choose the models they want, the frameworks they want, the clouds and inference service providers they want and the computing platforms they want. NVIDIA compute will not be required to build on or deploy through Hugging Face.

Hugging Face will continue to support open source and open weight models from across the ecosystem, from every model builder. It will continue to support multi-cloud and multi-accelerator development and deployment, so builders can use the hardware and infrastructure that best fit their work."

Keeping personal opinions about AI aside, I'm certainly more in favor of real people being able to use AI models without having to rely on massive, un-evironmentally friendly data centers from the likes of Microsoft and OpenAI.

AI is very much here to stay, whether we choose to embrace it or not. But I'm definitely on the side of being able to use it however you want to use it and without feeding all your data to companies that don't necessarily deserve it.

NVIDIA is very much AI-first these days, though. Gone are the days we'd all look at its shiny new GPUs, and our only thoughts would be about gaming. It does make you ponder what the future holds for gamers, though.

I've got an RTX 5090, for example, and it's still overkill for gaming. But with 32GB of VRAM and a ton of compute horsepower, it's pretty damn good for local AI use. But is this where future products will be aligned first? Everything's getting more expensive, and AI is definitely to blame for a good chunk of it.

Alas, here we are. If you use Hugging Face currently, it doesn't sound like anything's going to change. But if you're a gaming customer of the company, as I am, I am starting to wonder how important we're going to be in the future.

Nvidia discloses $21B stake in SpaceX

17 August 2026 at 15:22

Nvidia has disclosed that it owns nearly 123 million shares in SpaceX, further highlighting the chipmaker’s entangled financial relationships with some of its biggest customers.

The $5.5 trillion company owned SpaceX stock worth nearly $21 billion at the end of June, according to an SEC filing on Friday. Elon Musk’s rocket conglomerate’s shares have fallen sharply since its June initial public offering, meaning Nvidia’s stake would now be worth $17 billion.

The disclosure marks a huge pay-off on Nvidia’s investment in xAI, completed in January, shortly before Musk combined the AI lab with SpaceX.

11 August 2026 at 17:03

Na frente dela, temos a NVIDIA (68,4:1), a IBM (88,4:1), a The Walt Disney Company (164,8:1) e o Morgan Stanley (180,9:1).

Investors put $500B into Nvidia AI infrastructure plan

11 August 2026 at 09:45

Nvidia inked strategic partnerships with Apollo, BlackRock, Blackstone, Brookfield, Goldman Sachs and KKR to establish AI compute infrastructure financing platforms to mobilise more than $500 billion of third-party capital to build related infrastructure.

The chipmaker stated memorandums of understanding would help create the first compute financing platforms of their kind at global scale, intended to fund frontier AI laboratories, clouds and enterprises.

It noted the platforms are designed to create dedicated pools of capital at significant scale and attractive rates for its customers, positioning Nvidia compute and full-stack AI infrastructure as an investable asset class.

“We are bringing the world’s leading long-term capital providers together to independently underwrite AI infrastructure,” Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said.

“These financing platforms will help customers access scarce compute at scale and build the DSX AI factories that will power every industry and country”.

Nvidia described its compute as an investable asset offering the lowest token cost, highest revenue and longest life, alongside a rich ecosystem of buyers.

The arrangement builds on Nvidia’s broader push to raise capital for it and its customers to continue producing the chips, power systems and data centres underpinning the AI boom.

Nvidia GPUs underpin most leading US AI models available today and it supplies relevant chips, infrastructure, and software to a wide range of partners.

Money matters
It faced scrutiny in recent months over circular financing arrangements in which the company provides backing to help AI partners raise debt, in turn boosting Nvidia’s own revenue.

Bringing outside private capital providers onboard may help address some of the criticism since it spreads the financing load beyond Nvidia itself.

In recent years, private capital groups including Apollo and Blackstone have structured AI deals to help companies including Anthropic finance heavy spending on chips and data centres.

Financial Times reported Morgan Stanley predicts large cloud computing players would spend $3.5 trillion on AI infrastructure over the next two years.

Zayo teams with Nvidia to expand AI network capacity

7 August 2026 at 09:17

Zayo partnered with Nvidia to build out critical network capacity aimed at supporting AI factories, as the digital infrastructure provider looks to close a widening gap between compute demand and available network bandwidth.

Through the collaboration, Zayo is constructing more than 8,000 miles of new long-haul fibre across fast-growing AI corridors, alongside a significant expansion of capacity across its existing infrastructure.

The work spans 24 total routes, comprising six new long-haul routes, 10 overbuilds of existing network across high-demand markets, and eight existing fibre routes.

Nvidia is a Zayo customer and will have significant access to capacity across all the new and overbuilt routes.

Zayo CEO Steve Smith stated AI is reshaping where and how network infrastructure needs to be built across the US, adding the company has invested heavily in modelling where AI-driven demand will emerge so it can expand infrastructure ahead of that demand.

He said Zayo is combining decades of experience building and operating large-scale network infrastructure with Nvidia’s accelerated computing capabilities to support AI connectivity across North America.

Zayo said the expansion is designed to benefit the broader AI ecosystem beyond the largest hyperscalers, including neoclouds, frontier model developers, and enterprises across sectors such as healthcare, finance, and manufacturing.

Over the past 18 months, Zayo has expanded its AI-focused network buildout to more than 15,000 route miles across North America.

Its recently completed acquisition of Crown Castle’s fibre and small cell assets added 90,000 metro route miles and 40,000 on-net enterprise locations, strengthening the company’s metro density for AI inference workloads.

31 July 2026 at 21:21

27 July 2026 at 21:16

Agora, elas valem US$336,91 — o penúltimo recorde, vale lembrar, foi de US$333,74 e havia sido registrado no último dia 17/7.
