How to Arrange App Icons on iPhone 17: The Ultimate Home Screen Organization Guide

9 September 2026 at 15:53

A new iPhone 17 can feel surprisingly messy after only a few days of downloading apps. Social media, shopping apps, games, work tools, streaming services and utilities can quickly turn the Home Screen into a collection of icons that takes longer to navigate than it should.

The good news is that you do not have to accept Apple’s default arrangement. You can move app icons, create folders, place apps on different Home Screen pages, hide pages you rarely use and decide where newly downloaded apps should appear.

More importantly, a well-organized iPhone 17 does not need to follow a complicated visual system. The best layout is the one that matches how you actually use your phone.

Start With the Apps You Use Every Day

Before moving anything, think about which apps you open without searching for them.

For many people, these might include Messages, Phone, Safari, Camera, Maps, Photos, Music, Mail or a frequently used social media app. These are the apps that deserve the easiest positions to reach.

Instead of arranging every icon alphabetically, consider giving your most-used apps the most convenient locations.

A simple approach is to keep essential apps on the first Home Screen and move less frequently used apps to later pages. This reduces visual clutter while keeping important functions immediately accessible.

Apple allows apps and widgets to be placed in different positions on a Home Screen, including along the top, bottom or sides of the display.

How to Move App Icons on iPhone 17

Moving an app is straightforward, but you can use the process to completely redesign your Home Screen.

Touch and hold an empty area of the Home Screen until the app icons begin to jiggle. You can then drag an app to a new position on the same page.

If you drag an app toward the edge of the display, you can move it to another Home Screen page. When you have finished arranging everything, tap the Home Screen background to exit editing mode.

A Better Way to Position Apps

Do not feel that every available space has to be filled.

You can deliberately leave areas open to make a wallpaper photo more visible or create a cleaner visual layout. Apple’s current Home Screen customization also allows users to change icon appearance, including light, dark, clear and tinted styles.

This means your iPhone 17 Home Screen can be both functional and visually organized.

Create Folders for Apps You Don’t Need Constantly

Folders are useful when you have several apps that belong to the same category.

To create one, enter Home Screen editing mode and drag one app directly onto another. iPhone will create a folder that can hold additional apps. You can then give the folder a name that makes sense to you.

Instead of creating dozens of folders, keep the categories broad.

For example:

  • Social — Instagram, Facebook, Threads and similar apps
  • Work — email, documents, cloud storage and meeting apps
  • Shopping — Amazon, eBay and other shopping services
  • Entertainment — Netflix, YouTube, Spotify and streaming apps
  • Travel — airline, hotel, maps and transportation apps
  • Games — games you play occasionally

The goal is not to create a perfect filing system. It is to make an app easier to find when you cannot remember exactly where you placed it.

Use the Dock for Your Most Important Apps

The Dock is valuable Home Screen space because it remains available while you move between Home Screen pages.

Think of it as your permanent quick-access area.

Rather than putting four apps there simply because they came with your previous phone, choose the apps you use repeatedly throughout the day.

For example, a practical setup could include:

Phone | Messages | Safari | Camera

Another user might prefer:

Messages | Maps | Music | Mail

There is no universal best Dock arrangement. Your usage habits should determine it.

Organize Home Screen Pages by Purpose

If you have a large number of apps, forcing everything onto one screen can make the iPhone 17 harder to use.

A better strategy is to give each page a purpose.

For example:

Page 1 — Daily use
Communication, browser, camera, maps and other essential apps.

Page 2 — Work and productivity
Email, notes, cloud storage, office apps, calendars and task managers.

Page 3 — Entertainment
Streaming, music, games and social media.

Page 4 — Occasional apps
Travel, shopping, finance, utilities and apps you rarely open.

Apple lets you reorder complete Home Screen pages, so you can put your most useful page first rather than rebuilding the entire layout from scratch.

Hide Home Screen Pages You Rarely Use

You may not need to delete apps simply because you do not want to see them every day.

If a page contains apps you rarely use, you can hide the entire Home Screen page while keeping the apps available through the App Library.

To manage your pages, touch and hold the Home Screen background, tap the page indicator near the bottom, and then select or deselect the pages you want visible.

Hidden pages can be brought back later.

This is particularly useful if you want a minimalist iPhone 17 Home Screen without removing apps you occasionally need.

Let the App Library Handle the Apps You Rarely Open

The App Library can take over some of the organizational work.

Swipe left past your Home Screen pages to reach it. iPhone automatically organizes installed apps into categories, while frequently used apps are positioned for easier access. You can also search for an app by name.

This creates an important distinction:

Home Screen = apps you want to see.

App Library = apps you want to keep.

Once you adopt this approach, you do not need to give every installed app a permanent position on the Home Screen.

Stop New Apps From Filling Your Home Screen

One of the easiest ways to keep your iPhone 17 organized is to control where new apps are installed.

Go to:

Settings → Home Screen & App Library

You can choose whether newly downloaded apps are added to the Home Screen or placed in the App Library only.

Choosing App Library Only can be useful if you regularly download apps but do not want every new installation to disturb your carefully arranged Home Screen.

You can still move an app from the App Library back to the Home Screen whenever you decide that it deserves a permanent place.

Build Your Layout Around How You Hold the iPhone

There is another detail that is easy to overlook: thumb reach.

If you usually operate your iPhone 17 with one hand, putting frequently used apps closer to the lower portion of the display can make them easier to reach.

You do not have to create a symmetrical Home Screen.

Place important apps where your thumb naturally lands. Put less important apps farther away or inside folders.

This approach is often more practical than copying a visually attractive Home Screen layout from someone else.

Use Widgets Without Letting Them Take Over

Widgets can provide useful information without opening an app, but adding too many can make the Home Screen harder to navigate.

Consider keeping only widgets that provide information you genuinely check.

Examples include:

  • Weather
  • Calendar
  • Reminders
  • Battery information
  • Music
  • Maps or travel information

Apple also allows Home Screen widgets and app icons to be customized together, including appearance and color options.

A useful rule is simple: if a widget does not save you time, remove it.

Try a Minimalist iPhone 17 Layout

If you want a cleaner Home Screen, you do not need dozens of folders.

One minimalist setup could look like this:

First page:
Your essential daily apps plus one or two useful widgets.

Second page:
Work, productivity and communication tools.

Third page:
Entertainment and social apps.

Everything else:
App Library.

This arrangement keeps the first screen useful without requiring you to constantly reorganize icons.

What If Your Home Screen Becomes a Mess?

You do not have to manually move hundreds of icons back into place.

iPhone includes an option to reset the Home Screen layout. According to Apple, resetting the Home Screen removes folders and places downloaded apps alphabetically after the apps that came with the iPhone.

You can find this option under:

Settings → General → Transfer or Reset iPhone → Reset → Reset Home Screen Layout

Use this carefully, because it is a reset rather than a temporary rearrangement.

The Best iPhone 17 Home Screen Is the One You Don’t Have to Think About

There is no single perfect app arrangement for the iPhone 17.

The most useful setup is usually based on three principles:

Keep frequently used apps close.

Move occasional apps into folders or the App Library.

Keep the first Home Screen simple enough to navigate instantly.

Once your apps are arranged around your actual habits rather than their download order, the iPhone 17 becomes easier to use. You spend less time searching through pages and more time getting directly to the feature or app you need.

If your Home Screen starts becoming crowded again, do not reorganize everything from scratch. Move the apps you use most often back to the front, hide unnecessary pages and let the App Library handle everything else.

That makes Home Screen organization an ongoing system rather than a one-time cleanup job.

Apple Notes iOS 27 Upgrade Adds Smarter Organization

1 August 2026 at 15:43

Apple Notes in iOS 27 receives a focused collection of upgrades designed to make long documents easier to navigate and information simpler to move between apps.

Section links allow users to jump directly to headings inside a note. Divider lines create clearer visual boundaries, while expanded Markdown support improves workflows involving websites, writing tools and plain-text editors.

Siri AI introduces the most ambitious addition by creating notes, adding information to existing documents and transferring answers from a Siri conversation without requiring manual copying.

Image Playground also becomes more capable inside Notes, gaining additional visual styles and photorealistic image generation through Apple’s new cloud-based model.

Not every feature requires Apple Intelligence. Divider lines, section links, Markdown tools and the updated interface work on every iPhone compatible with iOS 27. Siri AI and advanced Image Playground capabilities need newer hardware and may have additional language or regional restrictions.

Apple Notes iOS 27 Adds Section Links

Section links solve one of the largest problems affecting long notes: reaching information located several screens below the beginning.

A user can now select text, choose Add Link and connect it to any heading or subheading inside the current note. Tapping that linked text immediately moves the reader to the selected section.

The feature can turn the opening of a document into a manual table of contents. A project note might contain links to its schedule, budget, participants, research and outstanding tasks without requiring separate documents.

To create a section link:

Select text > Add Link > Link to Section > Choose a heading

Notes displays the headings and subheadings already present in the document. Regular body paragraphs do not appear as destinations, so the note must use Apple’s title or heading formats before links can be created.

To format a destination:

Select the section title > Formatting > Heading or Subheading

The visible link text does not need to match the destination heading. A phrase such as “View the current budget” can link to a section titled “Financial Information.”

Section links differ from the existing ability to connect separate notes. Apple Notes already allows users to create internal links leading from one document to another. The new control moves within the same document instead.

That distinction is useful for meeting records, research files, travel plans and study material that become too long for ordinary scrolling but do not need to be divided into several notes.

Links should continue working when the document is shared through iCloud because they point to structural elements inside the note rather than fixed screen positions.

Renaming or deleting a destination heading may affect its link. Users maintaining complex documents should test their navigation after reorganizing major sections.

Divider Lines Improve Visual Structure

Apple Notes in iOS 27 adds horizontal divider lines as a native formatting element.

The line creates a visible separation across the document without requiring users to type repeated hyphens, underscores or other characters.

To add one:

Place the cursor > Open the edit menu > Insert Divider Line

The divider is inserted at the cursor position and moves with the surrounding content as the note changes.

A horizontal line can separate meeting notes by date, distinguish reference material from personal comments or divide a recipe into ingredients, preparation and serving information.

It also provides structure without making every section a heading. Headings define the hierarchy used by section links, while dividers create a visual break that does not become another navigation destination.

Typing a row of hyphens previously produced an inconsistent substitute. The characters could wrap on a narrow screen, change length after editing or become difficult to select. The native element maintains its appearance as the document moves among iPhone, iPad and Mac.

Divider lines should be used selectively. Adding one between every short paragraph can make the note look more fragmented rather than organized.

The strongest layout combines headings for major subjects, subheadings for smaller divisions and divider lines where one type of content clearly ends before another begins.

Markdown Moves More Easily Into Apple Notes

Apple Notes gained the ability to import and export Markdown files with iOS 26. The iOS 27 upgrade removes additional steps from copying content between Notes and Markdown-based tools.

Markdown uses plain-text characters to represent formatting. A hash symbol can identify a heading, pairs of asterisks can create bold text and square brackets can define a link.

The format is widely used by writers, developers, documentation systems and publishing platforms because it remains readable without requiring a proprietary editor.

When Markdown-formatted text is pasted into Apple Notes in iOS 27, the app automatically converts the syntax into rich text. Headings become formatted headings, links become clickable and emphasis appears as bold or italic text.

A pasted line such as Project Schedule appears as a formatted heading rather than displaying the two hash symbols.

Moving content in the opposite direction is also easier. Apple has added a Copy as Markdown command that converts selected rich text into Markdown syntax before placing it on the clipboard.

To use it:

Select the text > Open the edit menu > Copy as Markdown

The result can be pasted into a content-management system, code editor, Markdown document or another writing application while preserving supported formatting.

Copy as Markdown does not transform Apple Notes into a complete Markdown editor. Users continue writing through the familiar rich-text interface rather than viewing raw syntax throughout the document.

Complex attachments may not translate perfectly. Scanned documents, drawings, audio recordings, embedded files and some tables do not have universal Markdown equivalents.

Basic elements such as headings, links, emphasis and lists provide the most dependable transfer. Users preparing an important publication should review the pasted result before assuming every element survived the conversion.

Siri AI Can Create and Update Notes

Siri AI gives Apple Notes in iOS 27 a more direct connection with information generated or located through the assistant.

A user can ask Siri a question, refine the answer through conversation and save the result into a new note. The transfer happens without selecting the response, copying it and leaving Siri to open Notes manually.

A request could take the following form:

“Create a note called Kyoto Trip and add this itinerary.”

Siri can also target an existing document when the user identifies it clearly:

“Add these restaurant suggestions to my Kyoto Trip note.”

The integration extends beyond saving complete answers. Siri AI can reorganize poorly formatted information, convert text into a clearer structure and place the revised version inside Notes.

Someone collecting an unorganized group of tasks could ask Siri to separate them by priority before saving the result. A block of research could be converted into headings and shorter paragraphs.

Siri’s personal-context capabilities can help locate an existing note when the precise title is forgotten. The assistant is designed to search information across apps and understand requests using details connected to the user.

These actions remain subject to permissions. Siri should not silently place information into a document without recognizing the requested destination and action.

Users should review AI-generated material before treating it as authoritative. Reformatting supplied text carries less factual risk than asking Siri to generate research, dates, quotations or instructions from general knowledge.

Siri AI Requires Newer iPhone Hardware

The main Apple Notes iOS 27 update runs on iPhone 11 and later, as well as the second-generation iPhone SE and newer models.

Siri AI has a narrower hardware requirement. Apple lists iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max and every iPhone 16 or later model as compatible with the new Apple Intelligence architecture.

An iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 14 or iPhone 11 can receive section links, dividers, Markdown support and the redesigned Notes interface. Those devices cannot use the Siri AI note-writing actions.

This separation means two iPhones running the same operating system can display different Notes capabilities.

Siri AI is scheduled to reach users as a beta later in 2026, beginning in English. Apple plans to expand language availability, but individual capabilities may not arrive simultaneously in every supported language.

The assistant will not initially be available on iPhone or iPad in the European Union. Apple has also said its new Apple Intelligence features will remain unavailable in China while the company works through regulatory requirements.

Ordinary Siri controls may continue to perform basic actions on unsupported devices, such as creating a simple dictated note. They should not be confused with the new ability to hold a conversation, reorganize information and add the result to a chosen document.

Image Playground Expands Inside Notes

Image Playground remains integrated with Apple Notes in iOS 27 and receives a substantially more capable generation model.

The upgraded system can produce higher-quality images in a wider range of visual styles, including photorealistic results. Earlier Image Playground versions concentrated on illustration, animation and sketch-like appearances.

Users can describe an image and insert the generated result into the current note. A travel plan might receive a destination image, while a creative project could use generated concept art beside written ideas.

Photorealistic generation runs through Private Cloud Compute rather than entirely on the iPhone. Apple says requests processed through this architecture are not stored or made accessible to the company.

Generated images automatically include a hidden SynthID watermark identifying them as AI-created. The watermark does not appear as a visible label across the picture, but it provides a technical signal that compatible systems can detect.

Image generation may have daily usage limits because it depends on powerful server models. Apple says most iCloud+ plans will provide increased access, although the exact allowance can depend on the subscription and service conditions available at release.

The complete Image Playground experience may not appear in every early iOS 27 beta. Apple can activate or adjust cloud-dependent features separately while testing the operating system.

New Icons Clarify Shared Notes and Folders

Apple Notes adopts the wider iOS 27 design changes through refreshed buttons, menus and Liquid Glass interface elements.

The Notes app icon has been updated while preserving the familiar yellow-and-white paper design. The change keeps the app recognizable without leaving it visually disconnected from the new system icons.

Shared material receives clearer identification. The shared folder displayed near the top of the folder list now uses a blue icon, separating it more clearly from private iCloud and local folders.

Individual shared notes and folders also receive revised symbols. These indicators make it easier to understand whether another person can view or edit material before sensitive information is added.

The distinction matters because a collaborative note can look almost identical to a private document once it is open. A clearer icon in the list provides another warning before the user begins editing.

Liquid Glass changes the appearance of controls and menus but does not alter the underlying note format. Existing notes, scans, checklists, attachments and locked documents remain available after the update.

People using accessibility settings such as increased contrast, reduced transparency or reduced motion may see a modified version of the visual design.

Existing Notes Features Remain Available

The iOS 27 changes build on a much larger set of capabilities introduced during earlier releases.

Apple Notes can already scan documents, attach PDFs, record audio, generate transcripts, solve mathematical expressions, create checklists and collaborate through iCloud.

Users can link one note to another, place notes inside folders, apply tags and create Smart Folders that collect documents according to selected rules.

Locked notes can use a device passcode or separate password, while Face ID provides faster access on supported iPhones.

The app can also identify handwriting, search text inside scanned documents and recognize information contained in images.

None of those existing tools has been replaced by Siri AI or Markdown. The new version concentrates on moving through large notes and transferring information with less manual work.

Section links are particularly effective when combined with audio transcripts or lengthy scanned research. A user can create headings above important material and place navigation links at the beginning of the document.

Markdown support addresses another gap by making Notes more practical as the first stage of a publishing workflow rather than a closed destination for text.

What to Check Before Installing the iOS 27 Beta

Apple Notes in iOS 27 is available for testing through prerelease software, with the complete operating-system release scheduled for the fall.

Beta software can contain synchronization failures, interface problems and changes that Apple has not finished documenting. Notes is especially sensitive because its content may synchronize immediately across every device using the same Apple Account.

Before installing a beta on a primary iPhone, users should confirm that important notes have finished syncing and that another copy of critical information exists outside the beta device.

A Mac, iPad or iCloud.com can be used to verify whether recent documents have reached the server. Exporting especially important notes as PDFs or Markdown files provides an additional copy that does not depend on the Notes database.

Collaborative notes require more caution. People using older operating systems may not see every new formatting element exactly as intended, particularly while iOS 27 remains in testing.

The public release should resolve many compatibility issues, but Siri AI will follow its own beta schedule and regional limitations. Installing iOS 27 alone will not guarantee that every intelligent Notes action appears immediately.

Apple can still modify menu locations, visual elements and cloud-based features before the final version arrives. The safest time to reorganize a large Notes library around section links will be after every frequently used Apple device can install its corresponding fall update.

Best Digital Planners for Mac and iPad 2026

By: Hannah
17 July 2026 at 20:28

The best digital planners for Mac and iPad are not necessarily the apps with the longest feature lists. A useful planner should help make the day easier to understand, keep commitments visible and reduce the number of places where tasks quietly disappear.

Mac and iPad also encourage two different planning styles. The Mac is better for typing, reviewing projects and arranging a full week across a larger screen. The iPad is more natural for handwritten notes, Apple Pencil planning and checking the day away from a desk. The strongest apps either work well across both devices or focus so successfully on one style that the compromise feels worthwhile.

Some people want a digital version of a paper agenda. Others want a visual timeline, a task manager, a calendar command center or a workspace that can hold an entire life. These are the strongest options for those different approaches.

Structured Is the Best Visual Daily Planner

Structured is the easiest recommendation for users who want to see the day as one continuous timeline. Tasks, appointments and focus sessions appear in chronological order, making it immediately obvious when the schedule is overloaded or when a free hour actually exists.

The app feels particularly natural on iPad because tasks can be moved and adjusted visually. Its Mac version provides more space for planning the full day while preserving the same clean layout. Structured also offers apps for iPhone and Apple Watch, which helps keep the plan accessible without repeatedly opening the Mac.

This is a strong choice for students, busy families and anyone who struggles with traditional task lists. A list says what needs to happen. Structured shows where each task can fit.

Its limitation is scale. It handles daily planning beautifully, but users managing large professional projects may need a separate project-management system. Structured is best when the priority is today rather than the entire company roadmap.

Goodnotes Is Best for Handwritten Planning

Goodnotes remains one of the best digital planners for iPad users who want the experience of paper without carrying notebooks. It supports Apple Pencil handwriting, PDF planner templates, typed text, images, links, stickers and searchable handwritten notes.

The experience depends heavily on the planner template selected. Users can choose daily, weekly, monthly, academic, financial or wellness layouts and import them as PDF files. Hyperlinked tabs can make a digital planner behave like a physical binder with instant navigation between months and sections.

The Mac app is useful for reviewing pages, typing longer notes and accessing the same documents at a desk. The iPad remains the better creation device because handwriting is the central appeal.

Goodnotes does not automatically manage time like a calendar-based app. Writing “meeting at 3 p.m.” on a page does not necessarily create a calendar alert. It is best for people who enjoy manually planning and reflecting rather than expecting the software to rearrange the day automatically.

Things 3 Is Best for Focused Personal Planning

Things 3 is a task manager rather than a traditional calendar, but its Today and Upcoming views make it an excellent personal planner. The interface is calm, fast and unusually disciplined. Tasks can be collected quickly, organized into projects and areas, then scheduled without turning the app into a complicated database.

The Mac version is especially good for weekly reviews and larger project organization. On iPad, Things feels lighter and more direct, with excellent keyboard support and touch controls. Cloud sync keeps tasks aligned across Apple devices.

Things is ideal for users who want to separate tasks from appointments. Calendar events can appear beside the daily list, but the app remains focused on actions rather than becoming a full calendar replacement.

The main drawback is collaboration. Things is designed primarily for personal planning, not shared team projects or household lists. It is also sold separately for Mac, iPad and iPhone rather than through one universal purchase.

A productivity app interface is displayed on a smartphone, tablet, desktop, and smartwatch, showing task lists, checkboxes, and a schedule for today—highlighting cross-device syncing and organization features for those seeking the best digital planners. It seamlessly functions as both an iPad planner and Mac planner to keep your workflow efficient everywhere.

Notion Is Best for Building a Custom Planner

Notion works for users who do not want to accept someone else’s idea of a planner. It can become a project tracker, editorial calendar, habit journal, reading list, weekly dashboard or all of those at once.

Templates make the starting process easier. A user can create daily pages connected to tasks, projects, goals and notes, then display the same information through calendar, table, board or timeline views. Notion Calendar adds a more conventional scheduling layer and works well on Mac.

The flexibility is both the attraction and the warning. Notion can become a beautifully organized personal operating system. It can also become a weekend-long design project that produces more templates than completed tasks.

The iPad app is useful for reviewing plans, adding notes and working with a keyboard. It is less satisfying for freehand Apple Pencil planning than Goodnotes. Notion is the better option for structured information, connected projects and users who enjoy building their own system.

Fantastical Is Best for Calendar-First Planning

Fantastical is the strongest choice for users whose day is governed by appointments, meetings and scheduled commitments. It combines calendars and tasks in polished day, week, month, quarter and year views across Mac and iPad.

Natural-language input makes adding events fast. Typing a phrase such as “Lunch with Alex Friday at noon” can create the event without opening several fields. Fantastical also supports multiple calendar services, time zones, reminders, meeting links and scheduling tools.

The Mac app is a strong command center for professional calendars. The iPad version offers enough space to examine the week without feeling compressed. Users can also connect Apple Reminders, Todoist or Google Tasks so scheduled work appears beside events.

Fantastical is less suited to reflective journaling or handwritten planning. Its premium subscription may also be excessive for someone who only needs a basic calendar. It earns its place when the calendar itself is the planner.

A tablet displays a digital calendar in dark mode, showing a weekly schedule for September 2025 with various colored events and a highlighted date—an ideal setup for seamless digital planning with the best digital planners.

Sunsama Is Best for Deliberate Work Planning

Sunsama approaches productivity as a daily planning ritual. Each morning, users review tasks, decide what belongs in the day and place that work onto the calendar through time blocking. At the end of the day, the app encourages a review rather than allowing unfinished tasks to become permanent background guilt.

It can collect work from services such as Notion, Trello, Asana and other professional tools, then combine those tasks with calendar events. This makes it useful for people whose work is scattered across several platforms.

Sunsama is more guided than most planners. That structure can help users stop planning an impossible day. The Mac experience is the main attraction, while the iPad app keeps the plan available away from the desk.

The subscription is relatively expensive, and the deliberate workflow may feel slow to users who only want a simple task list. Sunsama suits professionals who want planning to become a daily boundary around work rather than another place to collect everything.

Which Digital Planner Should You Choose?

The right planner depends on how the user naturally thinks.

Structured works best for seeing the day visually. Goodnotes is the closest replacement for a paper agenda. Things 3 provides the cleanest personal task system. Notion offers the most freedom. Fantastical serves users who live through their calendars. Sunsama brings the most deliberate approach to professional time blocking.

Using several planners at once usually defeats the purpose. A better strategy is choosing one primary system and allowing other apps to support it. Someone might use Fantastical for appointments and Things for tasks, or Goodnotes for weekly reflection while Structured runs the actual day.

The best digital planners do not create motivation by themselves. They create a reliable place to decide what deserves time. On Mac, that place can become a detailed planning desk. On iPad, it can feel closer to a notebook held in the hand. The right app should make those two experiences feel connected rather than duplicated.

NASA undertakes major reorganization to reduce bureaucracy and move faster

22 May 2026 at 15:28

NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman sent a long email to employees on Friday morning outlining several structural changes that are intended to make the sprawling agency more efficient and allow it to better accomplish major goals, such as returning to the Moon and building a base there.

"I believe it is imperative to concentrate resources towards the highest priority objectives in the National Space Policy and liberate the best and brightest from needless bureaucracy and obstacles that impede progress," Isaacman wrote in his 3,000-word letter.

Isaacman's message stressed that no one at NASA will lose their jobs, and no field centers will be closed as part of these changes. Rather, the overall intent is to improve operational efficiency and focus on the agency's core missions. Isaacman laid these out as: execute on the Artemis Program to return humans to the Moon; build an enduring Moon Base; develop a "Space Reactor Office" to get America underway on nuclear power in space; ignite an economy in low-Earth orbit; and build more X-planes and launch more science missions.
