Wikipedia Cofounder Larry Sanger Banned From Site for 'Canvassing'

Wikipedia cofounder Larry Sanger has been indefinitely banned from editing the site after editors concluded that he violated its canvassing rules, "or in other words, calling on his followers off platform in order to influence Wikipedia's content," reports 404 Media. Sanger says the ban proves Wikipedia suppresses ideological diversity, while editors argue he was trying to mobilize an outside audience to influence internal decisions and had ignored an earlier warning. From the report: The discussion that led to the decision to ban Sanger concluded with what an editor called a "clear consensus" to ban Sanger. "There is general agreement among participants that he has engaged in off-wiki canvassing and is not here to constructively build the encyclopedia," the editor said in a note closing the discussion. "There is also a significant concern shared by many editors that his actions constitute calls for outing." While Sanger has been railing about bias on Wikipedia for years, the specific issue here is around his WikiProject Intellectual Diversity. WikiProjects are group efforts among Wikipedia volunteers to deal with certain issues on the site. [...] Sanger's WikiProject Intellectual Diversity, as its name implies, aims to bring more intellectual diversity to the site, mostly meaning more right-leaning perspectives. Sanger's WikiProject Intellectual Diversity and its goals alone do not merit a ban according to Wikipedia's policies. The problem, according to Wikipedia editors, is that during the discussion about whether to allow WikiProject Intellectual Diversity to become an official WikiProject, Sanger invited his 91,000 followers on X to influence that discussion. Discussions about potential bans are supposed to remain open for at least 72 hours. While consensus that Sanger had violated Wikipedia policies was clear, Sanger was banned at some point before that deadline. He was then briefly unbanned, and then again indefinitely banned once 72 hours had elapsed and the discussion about the ban closed. "Wikipedia has become more of a mob-rule anarchy than ever," Sanger said in a statement sent to me by a spokesperson. "In the kangaroo court in which a mob ousted me, Wikipedia's administrators showed that they don't appear to value details like formal charges, a designated prosecutor, basic decorum, distinction between prosecution and judge, dispassionate adjudication, and so forth. They have no proper system other than triggering a mob to selectively enforce their hodgepodge of vague rules." "Now that same mob has blocked me for trying to bring an intellectually diverse group of thinkers and editors to the site," Sanger continued. "Subscribing to their groupthink is now an official requirement of being a member in good standing. Something must change, and now. I only wonder if the system as it currently stands can even allow the discourse necessary to fix the system."

The Virtual World of Stonehenge Experience is Now Available Online for Free

A virtual tour of the historic UK monument, called the Virtual World of Stonehenge, which allows users to visit one of the world’s most iconic historical sites, has just been released online to coincide with the annual summer solstice.

Along with capturing the entire 2022 British Museum’s Stonehenge virtual tour, the new online experience developed by researchers at the University of Reading allows users to travel back in time to witness the site at various stages of construction on their phones, PCs, or other devices without leaving the comfort of their homes.

Building the Virtual World of Stonehenge with 3D scans

According to a statement announcing the new online Virtual World of Stonehenge experience, the museum’s original ‘World of Stonehenge’ exhibition, which opened on February 17, 2022, attracted over 190,000 visitors and brought together “over 400 objects from 36 institutions across Europe.”

“The original exhibition brought together an extraordinary collection of prehistoric objects, many of which had never been displayed together before,” explained team member and study author, Professor Duncan Garrow, Professor of Archaeology at the University of Reading. However, the team noted, viewing the entire complex, interactive exhibit required in-person attendance.

To capture the experience and make it available worldwide, Professor Garrow and colleagues joined forces with researchers at the University of Southampton. They also enlisted the services of ArtasMedia, a team of “digital heritage specialists” which employed laser scans to digitally capture every inch of the exhibit. According to the team, these 3D scans of the original World of Stonehenge gallery were taken during the exhibition’s final weeks.

Taking the Online Tour Makes History “More Accessible”

Along with capturing all the original exhibit, the team said that the new online experience allows users to “go inside Stonehenge itself and watch it change through time, explore Neolithic flint mines at Grimes Graves, and discover rarely seen prehistoric objects through animation, soundscapes and interactive content.”

“Timed to release alongside the summer solstice, the new virtual version goes well beyond a simple recreation of the gallery,” they explain.

Some of the most striking objects featured in the museum exhibit and the virtual tour include a 6,000-year-old elm leaf, a bracelet woven from cow hair, and the remains of what the team called a “prehistoric feast.” When scanned with 3D lasers and combined with their historical context, the team said the lesser-known objects and their stories suddenly become “more accessible.”

“Now anyone, anywhere they are, can not only see those objects but understand the world of Stonehenge and experience how it looked and felt thousands of years ago,” Professor Darrow said. “We hope it brings prehistoric Britain to life in a completely new way.”

Release Intentionally Timed with the Summer Solstice

When discussing the value of putting the Virtual World of Stonehenge online, Dr Neil Wilkin at the British Museum said the project has prompted him and his colleagues to consider the future of virtual museum exhibitions, “not just at the British Museum but everywhere across the world.”

Funded by UK Research and Innovation and building on AHRC-funded research led by British Museum curator Dr Neil Wilkin, in partnership with Professor Duncan Garrow at the University of Reading, the June 21st release of the online experience was timed to coincide with the summer solstice. Although some aspects of the iconic structure’s function may remain in dispute, most historians and many enthusiasts believe the site has been home to solstice celebrations for several millennia.

“The launch coincides with the summer solstice, the moment when Stonehenge’s alignment with the rising sun has drawn people to the site for thousands of years,” the team explained.

The Virtual World of Stonehenge is free to access from Sunday 21 June: The World of Stonehenge: University of Reading and British Museum

Nvidia rallies telcos around AI agents at DTW Ignite

Nvidia and telecom partners including SoftBank Corp and NTT Data plan to demonstrate a stack of data, models, simulation tools and secure runtimes at DTW Ignite 2026, aimed at helping operators move from task-based automation to fully autonomous network operations.

The company argues while generative AI has delivered strong returns in network management, customer care and back-office automation, most of the impact has been limited to speeding up predetermined steps while humans still correlate insights and direct next actions.

Nvidia’s claims automation is now “the launchpad to autonomy” rather than the end goal, with AI agents expected to proactively monitor for problems and coordinate changes across network, IT and business systems while keeping humans in control of policy.

Nvidia cites figures showing 54% of telecom operators view data-related issues as their biggest obstacle to building telecom-specific AI models, largely because the most valuable network and customer data is too sensitive to use directly for training.

SoftBank Corp is tackling the problem by using Nvidia’s NeMo Safe Synthesizer and NeMo Anonymizer tools to generate privacy-preserving synthetic datasets which mirror the structure of real network performance and configuration datasets.

Those datasets are being used to fine-tune its Large Telecom Model (LTM) and build specialised network agents.

On the runtime side, Nvidia stated its NemoClaw blueprints and OpenShell secure runtime are designed to give long-running agents policy-based guardrails and sandboxed access to telecom systems, allowing operators to expand agent responsibilities while keeping behaviour auditable and governed.

NTT Data is applying Nvidia’s open Nemotron models alongside NemoClaw to build agents which track long-term network performance trends and escalate anomalies to specialised research agents for deeper telemetry analysis.

Other partners building on the same framework include: AdaptKey, which is piloting self-healing 5G agents with operators; ServiceNow, which is bringing its Project Arc incident-response tooling to telecom network operations centres; and Tata Consultancy Services, which is developing a multi-fidelity AI sensor architecture for faster anomaly detection.

Simulation is the third pillar of the effort, intended to let agents test recommendations in near-real-time digital environments before acting on live systems.

Software company Forsk stated its GPU-accelerated radio propagation model now achieves ray-tracing-level accuracy up to 200 times faster than CPU-only systems, while Viavi Solutions reports order-of-magnitude gains in RAN simulation throughput after shifting workloads to Nvidia’s RTX Pro 6000 Blackwell GPUs.

KDDI and KDDI Research, working with Nvidia, Keysight and Samsung Research America, are building a high-fidelity RAN digital twin aimed at the 6G era, allowing multiple autonomous agents to simulate scenarios for future radio conditions and traffic shifts.

The TM Forum’s DTW Ignite conference runs 23–25 June 2026 in Copenhagen.

Nvidia rolls out robot safety platform

Nvidia unveiled what it described as the industry’s first full-stack safety platform for physical AI designed to accelerate the deployment of humanoid robots in industrial environments.

The company said its expanded Halos platform combines AI compute, system software, sensors and inspection tools into a single safety architecture aimed at helping robotics companies build and certify autonomous systems operating alongside human workers.

The chipmaker explained as robots become more autonomous and increasingly rely on AI foundation models, distributed sensors and accelerated computing, “scaling these systems requires a full-stack safety architecture” before they can be trusted to work alongside humans in factories, warehouses and logistics operations.

The stack includes Nvidia’s IGX Thor industrial computing platform, Holoscan Sensor Bridge for sensor connectivity and Halos OS software stack.

Nvidia also opened its Halos AI Systems Inspection Lab to robotics partners, aiming to help them complete pre-certification testing and validate safety systems before approaching regulators.

Digit
Humanoid robotics company Agility Robotics is the first partner to adopt elements of the platform into the proprietary safety system for its Digit humanoid robot, which is already being deployed for industrial applications with customers including Amazon, Schaeffler and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada.

The robotics player will also use Nvidia’s Inspection Lab to validate Digit’s safety-related software, AI components and cybersecurity protections against strict standards.

Agility Robotics CEO Peggy Johnson said: “For humanoids to deliver value at scale, safety has to be built into the robot and validated across the entire system.”

She added the partnership with Nvidia “extends our leadership in responsible automation”, describing it as “a non-negotiable requirement for bringing humanoids safely into industrial workflows”.

Deepu Talla, VP of robotics and edge AI at Nvidia said: “Physical AI is transforming how factories, warehouses and logistics operations work. He added developers will be able to “harness Nvidia’s proven autonomous vehicle safety foundation to develop safer robots faster” and deploy systems “alongside workers with greater confidence”.
