iCloud Storage

My husband and I have iMacs, iPhones, iPads. We've never subscribed to an iCloud plan. We use DropBox for storing many files (I have Screenshot 2026-07-30 at 2.48.01β€―PM.jpg a large amount because I tested for them in the beginning.
I routinely delete emails when they are not needed, delete sent mails after a few days, etc. I empty the trash almost every day. We store photos in Google Photos and Amazon photos,
My husband doesn't do this.

Recently he somehow lost many emails relating to an upcoming trip. (It occurred...

HP pop-up won't go away

I clicked allow and don't allow nothing happens and I can't get rid of it. Maybe a restart will do the trick? First time I've ever seen this I recently turned on Apple Intelligence if that has anything to do with it. I have a Mac mini with Tahoe.

Edit: it went away as soon as I posted this. I hope it was legit? I did not allow it to be on the safe side..

Apple Upgrade program is a leasing deal

I have been in the iPhone Upgrade program for years. What that meant to me is that every year I would upgrade to the newest iPhone and start a payment program that was for 24 months. It was financed through Citizens bank at 0%. Basically, my payment was 1/24th of the cost of the phone each month. After 12 payments, it was eligible for an upgrade, so I would trade it in each year for the new models when they came out. The trade in paid the loan, so it was closed and a new one for the new...

Need advice on a Video Downloader

First off; I realise that I can - and have - searched the Web; but at the end of the day, the best advice comes from actual users.

My needs: YouTube would be a bonus rather than an essential.

I want to download videos from legitimate medical sites and similar sites that demonstrate "how to do things".

I would like to download videos - paid for and free - in general. That covers a wide group of material, I understand that.

Ideas from those who regularly download such as the above...

Scanner occasional connection fail

I am using an Epson v850 Perfection scanner with my iMac on MacOS 15.7.7. Occasionally the connection fails and does not reconnect after starting and restarting the scanner and scanning utility. All cabling seems to be okay. I try again later or next day and it works fine.

The scanner is about 3M [10'] away so is the distance an issue?

Bought my Watch

Finally went to the Apple Store and bought my Series 11 watch. Unfortunately my phone is too old for it and I had to buy an iPhone 17 also. I sure hope I can become comfortable with using it. Plan on taking some tutorials also. Took an hour on the phone with ATT to get it paired. Frankly it was an exhausting day. But at least if I fall off the ladder someone will know about it.

Is there a way to stop Firefox 152 from triggering a Dark Mode version of Finder when saving files in a Private window?

In macOS Big Sur 11.7, using Right Click > Save Image As... to save a file in a normal window in Firefox 152.0.x brings up a standard white/grey Finder window, but attempting to save an image in a Private window brings up a black/grey Finder window which is essentially worthless for sorting files, because there is simply not enough contrast between the grey text and the black background to be legible. Is there any way to fix this so that Private windows in Firefox open a standard...

Open Office no more?

Just got a warning from Apple that OS27 and up will no longer support Intel-based apps. I've used Open Office for 15 years, and have several gigs of documents. Can't use Pages to open them - I just tried. I contacted Open Office support, and they've gone radio silent. Am I doomed to Microsoft Office or is there a work around? TIA

I greatly appreciate all these suggestions for other free programs, but they all run on Intel. Apple is updating to Rosetta, and none of these programs are going...

Endnotes in Pages

I recently discovered endnotes in Pages and am getting carried away with them in the document :geek::rofl i am working on.

Just discovered something very handy. When i am reviewing a document and i come to an endnote, i double click on the endnote and the document jumps down so i can see the endnote. Saves a ton of scrolling time.
Endnotes BTW put the note at the end of the document.

Pages/Format (toolbar)/Footnotes (Rt. side, top of sidebar)/Type -

Three choices ;

What to do with a Google Gemini for Home Speaker if you dont want it?

My son, bless his heart gave me a Google Gemini for Home speaker for my birthday;

Screenshot 2026-07-21 at 08.43.57.png

Honestly, I dont know what to do with it. I didn't have the heart to explain (again) my anti Google policy and I did set it up with him. Yes, its AI is better than Siri, yes, you can have a conversation with it and yes, it has fantastic sound quality. I tried pairing it with my iPhone and played a playlist on Spotify, it's far superior to my Sony Bluetooth Tube but it requires AC power so it's...

Click Through

Hi there,

I recently switched to a Mac, coming from a Windows background. There are a few things about the Mac OS that are quite annoying wich I'm trying to compensate through tools.
One major downside (for me) I've yet to "fix" is the click behavior of background windows. In Mac OS there is this "feature" that prevents a mouse click from performing an action on a background window and brings it to the front instead. I really would like to disable this behavior and have "click through"...

Office for Mac

My iMac (Tahoe) has been running Office for Mac for a very long time with a valid licence. I only use Word and Excel and the rest is rubbish! It is suddenly now not allowing me to save any files (greyed out). Microsoft say I have to buy an Office product at great expense as they no longer support Office for Mac! If I want to continue using it I have to active the product again. When I click on "Activate" it requests me to "Sign in" to my account. And surprise, surprise, it refuses my...

Interesting Spam Post

Thought I would share something funny/curious regarding forum management.

Member MacInWin (Jake) reported a Spam post today...turns out it was from a Mac-Forums member who joined all the way back in 2012...and after 14 years decided to post some spam. Lol

Hard to say if it was an actual "human" registration from 2012...or a registration via bot.

I'm leaning towards it being a Bot...since who in the world waits 14 years to post spam??:confused4

"Let's see (note to self)...put on to-do...
