11 September 2026 at 09:44

Passwords in Apple Mail

11 September 2026 at 01:55
Where does Apple Mail get the passwords that it uses to check for mail? And how can you find out what the passwords are

I have 3 gmail.com accounts (don’t ask) and one verizon.net accounts. If I look in Chrome or at Google I find 3 passwords for one of the gmail.com accounts, none for the other 2 gmail.com accounts and 4 for the Verizon.net account.

I regularly get e mails on 2 of the 3 gmail accounts and the Verizon account

I normally keep the passwords on a spread sheet (I have 184...

Facebook Poor/erratic and disconnect problems

11 September 2026 at 01:33
Desktop or laptop - same problem. signal breakup/disconect.. Originally assumed desktop being faulty. So, I started using my laptop to prove the point. No joy! Issue realized on both. Changed provider from Verizon Fios to T-mobile 5G cellular. Used hardwire andWifi on desktop and wifi with Tmobile 5G. No change. Perplexing to say the least! Especially after changing provider. Next move will be to change software, thinking of using Google Meet, What's app or Signal to see if problem...

Permissions issues

9 September 2026 at 14:51
Tahoe 26.5.1 iMac. Been having an issue with images lately both from downloads and today some of my own that I airdropped from an older iMac to this one. If I try and open the image I get a prompt saying I do not have permission. Even if I try and unlock it the thing goes back to locked again. The way I have been getting around this is to do a restart and all is well for awhile till it pops up again. I probably went about 6 months or better before it first popped up about a week ago.
Any ideas?

Skype Sundowned by MS, replacement found.

9 September 2026 at 07:24
Just today I found myself needing to make a voice call to Australia in order to save myself AU$1,500.00. from Indonesia. In the past I have always used used Skype for these occasional necessities but as most people will know MS in their wisdome decided to scrap it back on May 5, 2025. (MS Teams is not a VOIP)

So, suddenly I found that an insurance policy I had thought cancelled was about to charge me for renewal on the 25th of this month and I definitely did not want that. I was unable...

Just had surgery to remove a cancerous prostate and sitting here (ouch) updating some personal agendas. One is my email service. Lately I have been receiving hundred's of emails arriving in my junk folder. No sooner than I clear it out, within the hour another hundred pop up. Thinking maybe its time to reconsider my email service and upgrade email and/or change my address. Still using an @hotmail.com address that I have had for a very long time. I currently have a microsoft 365 subscription...

Passkeys

8 September 2026 at 01:56
I have been listening to a BBC Radio 4 program called Scam Secrets which highlights the security of passkeys. Till now I thought that the fact that I used Apple generated passwords and my fingerprint to access websites meant that I didn't need to worry about switching to passkeys. eBay had already set up a passkey for me using my Gmail address which I rarely use. I still have a password for eBay using an alias for my iCloud email address. I also use aliases for my iCloud email only...

Slow operation

5 September 2026 at 23:37
Since updating to Tahoe my MBP has been running slower and slower with every update. I have a 2020 Intel machine, so clearly I'm running out of updates but to put in perspective just how slow is is running, I'm currently backing up using Super Duper. It's been running about 10 hours (it used to take 20 minutes before updating). It's copying between 50 and 100 MB/s.

When I open the applications folder, it takes about 2 minutes to fully populate the icons. I still have around 30% free...

Amphetamine; still eesential for my MacBook Pro

5 September 2026 at 16:40
Some time ago MacInWin suggested Amphetamine as an app/utility to prevent my system from sleeping which had frequently resulted in the system notification "Your disk (name) was not ejected properly." even though it showed as connected on the Desktop on waking. An AI search states, "The "Disk Not Ejected Properly" message on macOS indicates that an external drive disconnected from the system unexpectedly, often due to sleep settings, hub issues, or connection...

3 September 2026 at 03:41
I have an iPhone 11, IOS 26.6.1, and want to turn off my passcode or set to stay on longer that coming up every time I go to use my phone! Recently, granddaughter persuaded me to use Face ID and passcode. I deleted Face ID a few days ago, then wanted to change passcode ID time before came up again, and can't find where/how to do it.
In Face ID and Passcode no option to turn passcode off; grayed out. Under Require Passcode, only says immediately. Previously I believe there were several...
