« L'une des dernières voitures conduites par des humains » : pourquoi la nouvelle Tesla « volante » soulève autant de questions

Tesla has unveiled a new version of its next-generation Roadster. As expected, it received Tesla’s latest design “cyberfication” and cold-gas thrusters to allow it to jump and flip through the air.
The livestream featured impressive stunts but offered few details. Tesla released more information on X after the event, but there’s still no price and no production date.
more…Tesla says it will finally stream its next-generation Roadster event this Thursday, October 15, at 7:55 pm Central, two weeks after it was supposed to happen.
It’s the latest date in a long list of them. Tesla first showed the Roadster in November 2017 and promised production in 2020. Nearly nine years later, it hasn’t delivered a single one.
more…Tesla was just granted a patent for an “Electric Fan Car,” a system that uses four electric ducted fans in the rear diffuser to suck the car down to the road at any speed. The car in the drawings is a Model S, which Tesla stopped building in April.
It’s Tesla’s second fan car patent in just over a year, and it arrives two weeks before the company’s latest attempt at a Roadster demo.
more…Tesla has officially pushed its Roadster demo from October 1 to October 15, blaming “severe conditions” in the forecast for central Texas.
It’s the latest in a long line of delays for the next-gen Roadster, and this one moves the event back two full weeks for what Tesla describes as a weather problem.
more…Update 9/28: Tesla has since confirmed that it’s rescheduling the Roadster event to October 15, citing “severe conditions predicted.” We have more on the two-week delay here.
Tesla is warning guests invited to its October 1 Roadster event that the long-delayed demo could get pushed back again, and this time it’s the weather.
In an email to invitees, Tesla says the event “must be held outdoors” and may need to be rescheduled. And the forecast for central Texas on Thursday calls for an 82% chance of rain, with thunderstorms.
more…A new Tesla patent application describes a two-piece active rear wing that hides flush in the bodywork and can produce up to 700 kg of downforce once deployed. The car in the drawings looks a lot like the next-generation Tesla Roadster.
The USPTO published the filing on September 24, a week before the Roadster unveiling Tesla has scheduled for October 1 in Texas.
more…Tesla has reopened reservations for its next-generation Roadster, asking buyers for a $50,000 deposit about two weeks before the car is even unveiled.
The reserve page went live this week ahead of an October 1 reveal near Waco, Texas. It’s the second time Tesla has collected $50,000 for the Roadster. The first batch of deposit-holders is still waiting, nearly nine years later.
more…Tesla will finally unveil its new Roadster on October 1, more than eight years after it first showed the car in 2017. And a teaser this weekend suggests the production version is getting Tesla’s “Cyber” design treatment.
The teaser shows SpaceX cold gas thrusters firing out the back, and Elon Musk has promised “radical design changes.” But the Roadster never needed a redesign. It needed to ship.
more…Tesla is teasing an October 1 reveal for the new Tesla Roadster, nine years after it first showed the prototype.
The company posted a “Go for launch” teaser image Friday showing the electric hypercar bathed in rocket-launch lighting, with the date “10.01” stamped across it.
more…Tesla’s chief designer says the new Roadster is coming “very soon.” We are talking about the same car Tesla revealed in 2017 and promised to build by 2020.
Franz von Holzhausen said it on the latest episode of Jay Leno’s Garage. When Leno pressed him on it, he doubled down: “very soon.” Leno’s deadpan reply, “10 years… just shy of 10 years,” said the rest.
Elon Musk says Tesla plans to “open source” the Model S and Model X, and he’s pointing to the original Roadster as the template.
The problem is Tesla’s Roadster release amounted to eight files on GitHub plus five document packages behind a login, with no open-source license attached to any of it.
Tesla has pushed the planned public demo of its next-generation Roadster to August or later, according to a report from The Information citing four people with knowledge of the program. It marks yet another delay for the vehicle first unveiled as a prototype nearly nine years ago.
The demo, expected to take place in Texas, is meant to showcase the SpaceX cold gas thruster system that Tesla claims will allow the Roadster to achieve extreme acceleration and even lift off the ground.
