Dyson's OnTrac headphones are discounted to AU$299 — as an audio expert, these are the 3 over-ears I would recommend instead

It’s been just over two years since Dyson introduced its second pair of headphones, the OnTrac, to the world. While they were a significant improvement — both in terms of sound and general design — over the Zone, I ultimately found in my Dyson OnTrac review that they still couldn’t quite challenge the class leaders — namely Sony and Bose.

A strong factor in that realisation was their exorbitant AU$799 price tag. Not only was that too much for the Dyson headphones (regardless of brand name), it also allowed other manufacturers to charge AU$700 or more for their premium cans — here’s looking at you, Sony, Bose and Sennheiser.

Now, two years later, the Dyson OnTrac has plummeted to a much more acceptable AU$299 during Dyson’s Spring Sale event. At this price, I think they’re worth a look. The noise cancellation is very good, and a 55-hour battery life gives them greater stamina than the closest competitors. I also can’t really fault the ability to customise them, since it’s a feature that’s still pretty unique. That being said, they’re incredibly heavy, so I found I could only wear them for short stints.

At this price, the Dyson OnTrac becomes a lot easier to recommend, although I’d still tread with caution. Their looks may make them stand out from the crowd, but where audio quality is concerned, they can be beaten. Although I don’t see them getting any cheaper, even during Black Friday 2026 sales in Australia later this year.View Deal

However, for your AU$300, or thereabouts, you’re not short of great alternatives. So, if you’ve got a burning desire to invest in a new set of mid-priced headphones, take a look at my top recommendations below.

Do note that Amazon recently announced dates for its Prime Big Deal Days sales event. If experience is anything to go by, there’s a good chance my three recommended pairs of headphones below could receive bigger discounts when Prime Big Deal Days kicks off, but they’re worth every cent even right now.

For just under AU$200 (for the white model), the Nothing Headphone (a) are a terrific buy. A vast improvement over the Headphone (1), this newer set delivers a detailed, expansive soundstage coupled with good noise cancellation. Plus, their 135-hour battery life eclipses the OnTrac by some margin. View Deal

QuietComfort SC: was $499.95 now $349.99
Nearly as good as the premium QuietComfort Ultra, the SC misses out on the Immersive Audio mode — though they do come with a soft case. They have dropped to well below AU$300 before, which could happen during the next Prime Day sales event. View Deal

If your budget can stretch, the Sony WH-1000XM5 will reward you with superior sound quality, incredible comfort and excellent ANC. They’re comfortable to wear for long periods and benefit from a smartphone app that opens up a huge world of customisation.View Deal

Not sold the iPhone 18 Pro? There’s still time to grab the iPhone 17 Pro at a discount

In case you were unaware, Apple unveiled the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max last week, alongside its first-ever foldable, the iPhone Duo.

Naturally, the iPhone 18 Pro preorders quickly followed suit, with rebates of up to AU$1,595 when you trade in an old phone, and accompanying SIM plans from AU$39/m.

While it’s always nice to have the latest tech, a fresh product launch also means an older device is ripe for discounts, and that’s certainly the case for the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max.

Apple may have discontinued both models from its online store, but retailers and telcos, including Amazon, Optus and Vodafone, still have stock — including the popular Cosmic Orange colour — meaning you still have time to score one at a discount. Whether you just want to save money, aren’t fussed with having the latest iPhone, or you simply prefer the colour options of the iPhone 17 Pro series, now’s a great time to take advantage of any offers.

Buying outright

If you want to buy outright, then Amazon and Optus are great options, although if you’d prefer to shop at the former, you’ll want to hurry as the retailer doesn’t have stock of all sizes and all colours.

The standout offer has to be a 9% saving on the iPhone 17 Pro Max (256GB) in Cosmic Orange, now AU$1,995. The same phone is also available in Silver for the same price.

If you’d prefer the smaller iPhone 17 Pro, Amazon no longer has stock of the base 256GB variant. Instead, the most affordable option is 512GB for AU$2,197 in Deep Blue, or AU$2,229 in Cosmic Orange.

Alternatively, you could get the 256GB iPhone 17 Pro from a retailer such as The Good Guys, and pair it with Optus’ Small plan, or any of our other highly recommended SIM-only plans.

With a telco

Optus arguably has some tempting offers of its own. Not only can you split the cost of either the iPhone 17 Pro or iPhone 17 Pro Max into monthly interest-free instalments over up to 36 months, but all colours and storage sizes are in stock.

And, for a limited time, you can pair either iPhone with Optus’ Small plan, which has currently been reduced to just AU$39/m while the included data has increased from 60GB to 100GB. These benefits only apply to the first 12 months, after which the plan reverts to its regular AU$60/m for 60GB data — at this point, I’d recommend you check out the best SIM-only mobile plans for a more affordable option.

If you’re able to, it’s cheapest to pay the device off over 12 months, as you can see in the table below.

However, if you intend to remain on that Optus plan for three years anyway, all three options cost exactly the same over 36 months: AU$3,906.72. With the 12-month option, you'd simply pay $205.56/month for year one, then $60/month for years two and three.

Vodafone also has some attractive offers, with monthly device payments for the iPhone 17 Pro starting at AU$47.18/m. Once again, you’ll spend the least amount of money if you pay off over 12 months.

This 57% discount on the Jura S8 automatic coffee machine is so good, I did a double take

As TechRadar’s coffee expert and custodian of our guide to the best coffee machines in Australia, you can rest assured I make it my mission to trial as many espresso machines as possible. One brand that has, so far, eluded me, however, is Jura.

Judging by our Jura J10 and Jura Z10 reviews, that’s clearly a shame, as the Swiss brand is an expert in all things automatic coffee machines. And that’s exactly why a massive 57% discount on the Jura S8 at The Good Guys piqued my curiosity and made me do a double take.

Plummeting from AU$3,690 to AU$1,589, this is a prime opportunity to snap up an uber-premium bean-to-cup machine to take pride of place in your kitchen for years to come.

S8 (1561): was $3690 now $1589
This premium fully automatic coffee machine grinds, brews and froths milk at the touch of a button. With 27 preset drinks available, including the ability to incorporate flavoured syrups, it’s essentially your own at-home barista. Make sure to hit the Price Beat button the full saving.View Deal

While I do enjoy getting hands on with a coffee machine — I’m a huge fan of the KitchenAid Semi-Automatic, for example — in my mind an automatic model is ideal. I can press a couple of buttons, pull up a saved recipe and have my coffee brewing whilst attending to other tasks.

The Jura S8 therefore looks like it could be my new best friend for a number of reasons. Firstly, Jura has been making automatic coffee machines for around 40 years, so it arguably has the expertise to understand what makes a decent cuppa.

That experience extends to proprietary technologies, including its P.A.G.2 grinder with its seven selectable grind levels, an eighth-generation 3D brewing unit that passes water through coffee on multiple levels for a more even extraction and the use of the Pulse Extraction Process (P.E.P.) that pushes water through the puck in pulses rather than one uninterrupted flow, to optimise extraction time.

The 27 drinks can be customised to a great extent too, with 10 strength settings, programmable water and milk quantities and three brewing-temperature settings. And, as mentioned earlier, the S8 can produce Sweet Foam — milk foamed with flavoured syrup during preparation. My colleague Cat Ellis has said the results are “delicious” in her Jura J10 review. Plus, the large 4.3-inch touchscreen looks glorious in pictures.

On paper then, the Jura S8 looks to be the perfect coffee machine for me. Not only does it promise top-tier performance, but I also think it’s a bit of a looker compared to many other machines that are more akin to black boxes.

This huge AU$2,101 saving at The Good Guys lists an end date of September 30, so while you do have a little bit of time to take advantage, it could transpire that stock could run out before then!

Want more suggestions?

If spending over AU$1,500 on an automatic coffee machine is too much for your budget, fret not, as there plenty of excellent models available for less. And, in some cases, you can actually find a machine that offers even more features than the Jura, for less money. Here are some other top-rated alternatives.

KF3: was $1349 now $1149
The best automatic coffee machine you can buy right now in my opinion, this KitchenAid model brews a delicious espresso time after time, offers a good level of personalisation, has a good (but not great) milk-foaming system, and intuitive navigation.View Deal

Eletta Explore Perfetto: was $1999 now $1199
The Eletta Explore is one of De’Longhi’s flagship series. This particular model can foam hot and cold milk, is controlled via a touch panel and can brew a large selection of drinks. View Deal

4400 Series Fully Automatic Espresso Machine: was $1199 now $797.36
This Philips machine is one of my favourites, and while it has gone lower in price before, I still consider this to be a great value for what is a great bean-to-cup espresso machine. View Deal

Luxe Café Premier: was $849.99 now $727
As we said in our 4.5-star Ninja Luxe Café review, this bean-to-cup coffee machine is worth the hype. Our tester said it was "an espresso machine anyone can master" that offers pro-level drinks without the effort. It’s all thanks to various technologies that determine the ideal grind size and automatically froth milk, meaning anyone can be an at-home barista. View Deal

J10: was $3990 now $2965
Ok, so this one costs more, but since I've referenced it a couple of times already, I had to include it here given the saving on offer. It does an excellent job of the fundamentals and adds the ability to make cold brew, along with a 42-drink menu.View Deal

Just in time for the Aussie summer, there's up to AU$300 off some of Dyson's popular purifying fans

It’s that time of year again when we’re not always sure whether to leave the house dressed for summer or winter. And while this transitional phase can be a nightmare for wardrobe choices, it means that summer is right around the corner, so it’s time to start thinking about how you’ll stay cool at home and beat the heat.

And let’s not forget that this is an El Niño year, so spring and summer will be drier than usual and potentially hotter, with a higher probability of bushfires. So, along with the heat, we’ll also need to contend with the smoke and ash in the air, which could cause respiratory disorders.

Long story short, it’s time to invest in a good purifying fan to see us through the coming months here in Australia.

Fortunately, Amazon understands this and has slashed up to AU$300 on some of Dyson’s powerful, bladeless fans to help keep you and the family cool when the temperature rises. I’ve highlighted three of my favourites below, all of which will not just purify the air you breathe at home and keep you cool, but will keep you toasty in the colder months. That’s good value for a gadget you can use year-round. If Dyson doesn’t tickle your fancy, I’ve also listed some highly recommended alternatives from the likes of Vornado and Shark.

Pure Hot+Cool HP00 Purifier: was $499 now $399.20
The HP00 is a three-in-one model, covering cooling, purifying and heating, making it a truly versatile unit and a good price — well, for a Dyson. Its 360º HEPA filtration system captures 99.95% of particles as small as 0.1 microns, while 70º oscillation helps circulate purified air around your room.View Deal

The Pure Hot+Cool Link offers the same three-in-one functionality as the HP00, but has the added benefit of smartphone connectivity, letting you monitor air quality and control the machine remotely from your phone. View Deal

Purifier Hot+Cool HP2 De-NOx: was $1199 now $899
You also get three-in-one functionality with this Dyson fan, but it combines HEPA H13 filtration with advanced gas removal, including the continuous destruction of formaldehyde that can be released by nearly everything we own in our homes today, including new furniture. It can be controlled via the MyDyson app and offers 350º oscillation. View Deal

AirPods 5 just pulled off the impossible for Apple — more features, lower price

While the major headlines from Apple’s September event were understandably on the iPhone Duo foldable, one of the standout announcements for me concerns the AirPods 5.

Apple’s non-Pro series of earbuds are once again available in two flavours, with a few, admittedly useful, features separating the two. Perhaps the biggest shock, however, is that both the AirPods 5 and AirPods 5 with Wireless Charging Case (that name will eventually become annoying to type out) cost less than the previous AirPods 4 with ANC.

The two-year-old model launched at AU$299. The new AirPods 5 models can be yours for AU$219 and AU$249. Given the fact that Apple has been no stranger to price hikes in recent times, it’s quite remarkable that the popular AirPods got a price cut.

More impressive still, both models introduce notable upgrades over their predecessors. Apple is claiming industry-leading ANC for an open-ear design, alongside a richer, more detailed sound, with support for Personalised Spatial Audio. Apple also claims they’re more durable than before, and you also gain access to Live Translation (previously a Pro-only feature), Adaptive EQ and up to five hours of playtime with ANC on.

The AirPods 5 with Wireless Charging Case not only get a wireless charging case (shock) but also on-stem volume control. Take it from me as an AirPods Pro 3 user, this feature alone is worth its weight in gold — it’s so intuitive to use!

The Apple AirPods 5 and AirPods 5 with Wireless Charging Case (yep, still annoying to type) will be available from September 18, and you can preorder them today from the following retailers. Amazon would be my top choice, as you can save a couple of dollars on RRP.

AirPods 5 deals in Australia

AirPods 5 with Wireless Charging Case deals in Australia

While the pricing of the AirPods 5 is commendable, I also have to bring your attention to the AirPods Pro 3, which are available for AU$347 at the time of writing at Amazon.

AirPods Pro 3: was $429 now $347
They did drop to a low of AU$299 during Prime Day, but this is still a great price on Apple’s flagship earbuds. They deliver best-in-class noise cancellation and a rich, full-bodied sound. While the AirPods 5 now also get the same Live Translation, the Pro 3s also rock a heart-rate sensor and longer battery life of up to 10 hours. View Deal

Footy finals are a great reason to get a new TV — save AU$500 on bestsellers from LG, Sony, Samsung and more for a limited time

We’re firmly at the peak of the sporting season in Australia. The AFL Grand Final is just around the corner, the NRL Grand Final is just under a month away, the NBL is about to tip off and the Formula One season is into its second half.

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg!

If you’re a sports fanatic, you’ll understand the importance of having a great TV to enjoy all the action in crystal-clear quality — think bold colours, fast-motion handling and high brightness to combat daytime viewing conditions.

JB Hi-Fi seemingly understands this and is offering AU$500 off any TV when you spend AU$2,000 or more and use the code TV500, until Sunday, September 13.

As someone who’s reviewed some of the best TVs in Australia, I’ve had a look through the available models to size up which ones are really worth checking out. Some initial highlights include a 65-inch LG B6 OLED for AU$1,995 after discount, a 75-inch TCL C8L for AU$2,195 and a 55-inch Sony Bravia 7 II True RGB TV for AU$1,995 with the code applied at checkout.

I’ve listed my top picks below, including models that have performed well under review with the TechRadar team of TV experts, and will be screens you’ll want to gather around with family and friends to get stuck into the summer sports season.

B6 OLED (65-inch): was $2495 now $1995
The LG B6 is the brand's latest entry-level OLED TV and a great choice if you want top-tier picture quality and gaming chops on a budget. We found in our LG B6 review that it performed well with sports content, particularly when the Standard picture mode was selected with Natural motion settings. Note that only the 65-inch model is eligible for the AU$500 discount. View Deal

C8L (75-inch): was $2695 now $2195
We’ve not reviewed the C8L just yet, but we loved its predecessor, the TCL C8K, deeming it to be a particularly strong performer for sports content. And this time around, TCL has introduced its new SQD-Mini LED technology, which promises to push brightness and colours further than ever before. I’ve selected the 75-inch for its big-screen greatness, but all models between 65-inch and 98-inch are ripe for the discount, with prices from just AU$1,795 after the discount. View Deal

Bravia 7 II (55-inch): was $2495 now $1995
The Bravia 7 II is the more affordable True RGB TV in Sony’s two-strong range, and even at full price, we called it “solid value for money” in our review, so this discount makes it even more attractive. Picture quality is excellent, with OLED-like black levels, spectacular colours and excellent motion handling. Its screen can be quite reflective in bright light, however, so make sure to draw the curtains if you’re watching during the day.View Deal

QNED86B (75-inch): was $2161 now $1661
This QNED86 is the top-tier QNED TV to be released in 2026 (meaning it combines the best of LG’s Quantum Dot, NanoCell and Mini LED technologies) and features LG's Evo brightness-boosting tech in the pursuit of improved picture quality. I've seen this model in the flesh, and it is a huge improvement over QNED TVs of old, capable of delivering vibrant and punchy images, bursting with colour. JB has already discounted the price of this model, and you can save AU$500 extra with code TV500.View Deal

R85H (75-inch): was $3595 now $3095
The Samsung R85H Micro RGB TV is another fine choice for watching sports, thanks to its high brightness, fantastic contrast and vibrant colours. It's an ideal all-rounder for films, movies, sports and gaming, as it also supports 144Hz and a variable refresh rate to give you a smooth and responsive picture.View Deal

There are plenty more screens to choose from that are eligible for the AU$500 discount — just remember that it needs to be at least AU$2,000 before the saving to be eligible. And hurry, you have until Sunday, September 13 to take advantage of this tantalising offer.
