Leaked images of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 from WinFuture

Samsung's next flip phone might be tough to tell apart from last year's Galaxy Z Flip 7. As 9to5Google points out, leaked images and specs for the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 8 shared by WinFuture are nearly identical to Samsung's current flip phone.

According to the leak, Samsung is not planning to upgrade the Z Flip 8 to one of Qualcomm's Snapdragon processors. Instead, it will have a Samsung Exynos 2600 chip, the successor to the previous-generation Exynos 2500 in the Z Flip 7. The only other notable upgrade is support for 45W wired charging.

Samsung is expected to officially announce the Z Flip 8, and the rest of its new lineup of foldable …

Samsung flexes foldable tech ahead of latest launch

15 July 2026 at 11:37

Samsung hyped-up redesigned screen technology intended to cut crease visibility and improve durability of foldable smartphones, in its latest announcement eking out details of new devices set to be launched at Galaxy Unpacked next week.

The company explained its Flex Titanium display technology uses structural and material advances on components used in its previous generations of foldables.

Alongside improvements in the robustness of the screen, Samsung claimed the new tech provided a “more refined viewing experience”.

It noted the development was shaped by a “deep understanding” of what users want from foldable smartphones, namely larger immersive viewing experiences and a less visible crease.

The Flex Titanium technology is set to make its debut in devices unveiled at Galaxy Unpacked in London on 22 July.

In recent years Samsung’s mobile product events held in July have been where it unveils its new generation of foldables and various other product updates. Its flagship Galaxy S smartphones are generally launched at Galaxy Unpacked events held in Q1 each year.

In the run up to the upcoming event, it has released a steady stream of information hyping what’s to come and lauding progress in developing foldables since the launch of its first iteration in 2019, a device it now describes as a “bold experiment”.

In comments released by the company last week, Samsung CEO and president TM Roh hinted at the possibility a new foldable form factor device could be revealed at Galaxy Unpacked, while also pushing the idea the vendor would deliver “more personal, natural AI experiences”.

Alongside fresh additions to its foldable line, the company announced it will present the “next evolution” of its Galaxy Watch at the upcoming event.

Apple and Samsung benefit as memory shortage pushes smartphone shipments to historic lows

13 July 2026 at 18:18

Smartphone shipments started to plateau a few years back, ending the days of guaranteed double-digit growth for any company that wanted to make phones. Fewer smartphone manufacturers exist today, and they're facing new pressure in the age of AI. A new report claims that smartphone shipments cratered 11 percent in the last quarter. Some are weathering the storm better than others, though.

According to Counterpoint, this substantial drop brings smartphone shipments to their lowest second-quarter level since 2013. Analysts place the blame for this drop squarely on the increasing price of DRAM and NAND chips. Manufacturers have largely shifted to supporting the AI computing boom, which leaves fewer components for consumer devices like smartphones and PCs. As prices climb higher, fewer people are interested in buying new phones.

This problem has been particularly vexing for people who are happy to purchase budget devices. A recent report from market research firm Omdia noted that higher memory costs are particularly bad for phones priced at $500 or less. In these segments, memory can now easily account for half of the total manufacturing cost. These devices have seen quicker and larger price increases compared to flagship devices, for which memory is now more than a quarter of the cost. That's a significant increase in the past year, but there's still more profit to be had at the high end.
