Apple’s next wave: touch-screen MacBooks, a smart-home hub, and 14 more products

15 September 2026 at 17:00

Apple Logo

Apple has barely finished unveiling the iPhone Duo, iPhone 18 Pro lineup, AirPods 5, and new Apple Watches, but the company already has a much larger pipeline queued up for late 2026 and the first half of 2027, according to Bloomberg News‘ Mark Gurman.

The coming products are part of what new CEO John Ternus has internally described as Apple’s most ambitious product road map yet. Many of the devices are designed to spread Siri AI more widely across the lineup and close some of the gap with rivals in artificial intelligence. As always, dates can slip and products can be delayed or canceled.

Later this yearGurman reports that Apple is preparing several updates before year-end:

• HomePod mini with Siri AI — Same familiar design as the 2020 model, but with a new chip to power the overhauled assistant.

• Apple TV with Siri AI — Another look-alike refresh, this time with a faster chip for navigation and the new Siri experience.

• Smart-home hub — A square display that can sit on a speaker base or mount on a wall. It will run a new operating system, support video calls, and use facial recognition to personalize what it shows. Apple had considered showing it at last week’s event and is now aiming as early as October, though the timeline remains fluid after repeated delays.

• Touch-screen MacBooks — The biggest MacBook Pro change since 2021, adding OLED panels and touch screens for the first time, with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips.

• Entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro — Current design, updated with the M6 chip.

• iMac — New colors and an M6 processor.

• iPad mini — One of the line’s biggest upgrades, adding an OLED display.

The HomePod mini and Apple TV are already being tested with iOS 27. The new Macs are running macOS 27.1 internally, and the iPad mini is on iPadOS 27.1. Both of those software updates are expected late next month.

First half of 2027

The spring and early summer slate is heavier on refresh cycles than radical redesigns:

• MacBook Air — Same 13-inch and 15-inch designs, moving to the M6 chip.

• MacBook Neo — Follow-up model with an A19 Pro chip and more memory.

• Entry-level iPad — Faster chip so the cheaper tablet can run Apple Intelligence and Siri AI.

• iPad Pro — Chip upgrade plus vapor-chamber cooling similar to the iPhone 18 Pro.

• iPad Air — First OLED screens in that line, plus a new chip.

• iPhone 18 — Largely an A20 chip upgrade, with the notable change that the standard model is shifting from fall to spring.

• iPhone 18e — Another chip-focused update; Apple will need to make clear how it differs from the regular iPhone 18.

• iPhone Air 2 — More substantial: a 2-nanometer A20 Pro chip, better battery life, and a second rear camera for ultrawide shots.

• Apple Pencils — New Pencil Pro and USB-C models timed with the iPads; the iPhone Duo will support the stylus as well.

Looking further ahead

The second half of 2027 is expected to get more ambitious still, Gurman writes, with M7 updates to MacBooks, smart glasses, camera-equipped AirPods, a home security system, a redesigned Apple Watch, Twentieth Anniversary iPhones, and a second-generation foldable iPhone Duo.
‎
MacDailyNews Take: Taken together, the road map suggests Apple is trying to do two things at once: push Siri AI onto more affordable and living-room devices, and finally refresh categories that have languished for years. Whether October brings a full event or quieter waves of launches, the next 12 months look unusually crowded with product launces!

10 September 2026 at 21:05

Vale a pena conferir!

10 September 2026 at 18:55

AirPods 5 Launch With Active Noise Cancellation as Standard at $129

10 September 2026 at 07:01

Apple has officially introduced the AirPods 5, bringing a notable upgrade to its entry-level wireless earbud lineup without increasing the starting price.

The biggest change is that Apple is no longer offering a separate non-noise-cancelling version. Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) is now standard on AirPods 5, making this the first generation in the series to include ANC across the lineup.

Prices start at $129, while the version with a wireless charging case costs $149. That means Apple has added a major feature without raising the entry-level price.

AirPods 5 Keep the Familiar Half-In-Ear Design

At first glance, AirPods 5 look largely unchanged from the previous generation. Apple continues to use a semi-in-ear design, rather than switching to silicone ear tips.

This design choice creates an interesting balance. Traditional in-ear earbuds can generally provide stronger passive isolation because their ear tips form a tighter seal, while semi-in-ear earbuds can feel more comfortable during extended listening.

For users who dislike the pressure associated with sealed in-ear headphones, AirPods 5 may therefore offer a more comfortable approach to noise cancellation.

ANC Becomes a Standard Feature

The headline upgrade is active noise cancellation.

Apple says AirPods 5 deliver up to a 50% improvement in noise reduction compared with AirPods 4. Instead of requiring buyers to choose a more expensive noise-cancelling configuration, Apple has made ANC part of the standard AirPods 5 package.

The earbuds also support Adaptive Audio, which can automatically balance Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency Mode according to the surrounding environment.

This makes the AirPods 5 more practical for users who move between quiet indoor spaces, busy streets, public transportation and other changing environments.

Up to 5 Hours of Listening on a Single Charge

With Active Noise Cancellation enabled, AirPods 5 can provide up to five hours of listening time on a single charge.

The charging case extends total listening time to up to 20 hours, giving users several additional charging cycles throughout the day.

While the five-hour figure is not class-leading compared with some larger wireless earbuds, it is reasonable for compact semi-in-ear headphones. The case is also important for users who typically listen in shorter sessions and recharge the earbuds between uses.

IP57 Protection Adds More Durability

AirPods 5 also receive an IP57 rating, giving the earbuds greater protection against dust and water exposure than many basic wireless earbuds.

That additional durability could be useful for everyday activities such as commuting, walking or exercising. However, an IP rating should not be interpreted as making the earbuds suitable for every type of water exposure.

Apple Intelligence Features Expand Their Role

The new AirPods 5 also support several Apple Intelligence-related features, including real-time translation and access to broader knowledge-based functions.

This reflects Apple’s wider strategy of turning its earbuds into more than simple audio accessories. With tighter integration between hardware, software and Apple’s AI features, AirPods can increasingly serve as a hands-free interface for information and communication.

The usefulness of these features will naturally depend on device compatibility, supported languages and Apple’s software ecosystem.

AirPods 5 Price and Availability

Apple is keeping the entry price at $129, despite adding Active Noise Cancellation as a standard feature.

The pricing is:

  • AirPods 5: $129
  • AirPods 5 with wireless charging case: $149

The decision to maintain the previous starting price makes ANC the most significant value improvement in this generation.

What Makes AirPods 5 Different?

The AirPods 5 are not a dramatic redesign, but Apple has focused the upgrade on features that can have a noticeable effect on everyday use.

The combination of standard ANC, Adaptive Audio, a comfortable semi-in-ear design, IP57 protection and Apple Intelligence features gives the new earbuds a broader feature set without moving the starting price above $129.

For users who prioritize comfort and want noise cancellation without the tighter fit of traditional in-ear earbuds, AirPods 5 could be one of the more interesting additions to Apple’s audio lineup.

iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max Launch With 2nm A20 Pro Chip and Variable Aperture Camera

10 September 2026 at 06:47

Apple has officially launched the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, bringing a major round of upgrades to its high-end smartphone lineup. The new models focus on four key areas: processing performance, camera flexibility, sustained performance and battery life.

The iPhone 18 Pro starts at 9,999 yuan in China, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max begins at 10,999 yuan. Both models will open for pre-orders at 8 PM on September 12, with sales starting September 18.

Four Colors and a Refined Pro Design

The iPhone 18 Pro series is available in four finishes. Apple retains familiar black and silver options while introducing Glacier Blue and Burgundy Red, giving the new Pro models a more distinctive appearance.

The overall design remains closely related to the previous generation, but Apple has made another change to the front display area. The Dynamic Island has been reduced in size, allowing Apple to maintain its existing interactive features while taking up less screen space.

The iPhone 18 Pro features a 6.3-inch display, while the larger iPhone 18 Pro Max comes with a 6.9-inch screen. This keeps the two models clearly separated by size while maintaining the same general design language.

2nm A20 Pro Chip Brings a Major Performance Upgrade

The biggest change inside the iPhone 18 Pro series is Apple’s new A20 Pro chip, which is built using a 2nm manufacturing process.

The processor uses a six-core CPU configuration consisting of two performance cores and four efficiency cores. Apple says the performance cores can deliver up to a 20% improvement over the previous generation.

Graphics performance also gets a significant upgrade. The A20 Pro moves to a seven-core GPU architecture, with peak GPU performance reportedly increasing by up to 40%.

The chip’s AI capabilities have also been expanded. Apple equips the A20 Pro with two Neural Engine groups containing a combined 32 cores, along with a new generation of neural accelerators. Eight-bit floating-point processing can reach twice the previous speed, while memory bandwidth increases by 50%.

These improvements are particularly relevant as on-device AI becomes a larger part of the smartphone experience. More processing capacity can help Apple handle demanding AI workloads without relying entirely on cloud-based services.

New Vapor Chamber Helps Sustain Performance

Higher peak performance is only useful if a phone can maintain it under sustained workloads. To address this, Apple has added a new vapor chamber cooling system to the iPhone 18 Pro series.

The improved thermal design works alongside the A20 Pro to manage heat during demanding tasks such as gaming, video processing and intensive AI workloads.

Apple says sustained performance is up to 40% higher than the previous generation and can reach roughly double the level of the iPhone 16 Pro series.

That makes thermal management one of the more important changes in the new generation. Instead of focusing solely on short benchmark bursts, Apple appears to be placing greater emphasis on maintaining high performance over longer periods.

iPhone 18 Pro Gets Its First Variable-Aperture Main Camera

Camera hardware is another major highlight of the iPhone 18 Pro series.

The phones feature a 48-megapixel Fusion main camera, but this generation adds something new: a variable aperture.

The lens uses a six-blade aperture mechanism with four selectable aperture levels. This allows the camera to adjust how much light reaches the sensor according to the shooting environment.

In practical terms, variable aperture gives the main camera more flexibility than a fixed-aperture design. It can help balance light intake in darker scenes while also providing greater control in situations such as portraits and backlit photography.

The addition is particularly notable because Apple is bringing a traditionally camera-focused hardware feature to its mainstream Pro smartphone system.

Up to 30 Hours of Battery Life

Battery endurance has also received a substantial upgrade.

The iPhone 18 Pro is rated for up to 24 hours of battery life, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max can reach 30 hours.

Charging has been improved as well. Apple says the new models can reach 50% battery capacity in 15 minutes, giving users a faster way to recover power when they are short on time.

The combination of a more efficient 2nm chip, improved thermal management and increased battery endurance could make the Pro Max particularly attractive to users who prioritize long daily usage.

iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max China Pricing

Apple is offering both models with four storage configurations in China.

iPhone 18 Pro

  • 256GB: 9,999 yuan
  • 512GB: 11,999 yuan
  • 1TB: 15,499 yuan
  • 2TB: 20,499 yuan

iPhone 18 Pro Max

  • 256GB: 10,999 yuan
  • 512GB: 12,999 yuan
  • 1TB: 16,499 yuan
  • 2TB: 21,499 yuan

Pre-orders will begin at 8 PM on September 12, while the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max will officially go on sale on September 18.

What Makes the iPhone 18 Pro Series Different?

The iPhone 18 Pro generation is more than a routine processor refresh. The combination of the 2nm A20 Pro chip, new vapor chamber cooling, variable-aperture main camera and longer battery life gives Apple several hardware upgrades to highlight.

The variable-aperture camera is arguably the most visible photography change, while the new cooling system could have a bigger impact on users who regularly play demanding games or run intensive applications.

At the same time, the 9,999-yuan starting price for the iPhone 18 Pro keeps Apple’s premium Pro lineup firmly in the flagship segment. For buyers considering an upgrade, the most meaningful question may be whether the improved sustained performance, camera flexibility and endurance justify the higher price compared with the previous generation.

Apple's iPhone 18 Pro adds variable camera aperture and a more powerful chip

9 September 2026 at 18:38

CUPERTINO, Calif.—Apple's new iPhone 18 Pro is an iterative update that—as usual—focuses heavily on both performance and new camera features. This time around, many of the new camera features are oriented around giving the user more direct control of the image, rather than depending entirely on Apple's computational photography assumptions.

As usual, the new iPhone has a new chip. It's called A20 Pro, and it's the first 2 nm chip for the iPhone. It has a 6-core CPU, with two super-cores that are up to 20 percent faster, and four efficiency cores. A 7-core GPU offers up to 40 percent improved performance and increased bandwidth.

The A20 Pro also has a new Neural Engine—the machine-learning processor on the system-on-chip—which the company says is basically two Neural Engines on one chip.

iPhone 18 Pro Could Charge 25% Faster

9 September 2026 at 13:41
Code found in iOS 27 suggests the iPhone 18 Pro and ‌iPhone 18 Pro‌ Max could support a 33% higher charging rate than the iPhone 17 Pro models, according to a new discovery from the leaker known as "pdfu."

The findings apparently come from Apple's charging optimizer settings buried in ‌iOS 27‌, which show the ‌iPhone 18 Pro‌ and ‌iPhone 18 Pro‌ Max charging at a rate 33% higher than the iPhone 17 lineup. If Apple can maintain that higher rate throughout a charge, pdfu estimates it could cut around 25% off the time it takes to complete a typical fast-charging session.

Apple's first foldable iPhone does not appear to get the same treatment. The same code purportedly shows it charging at the same rate as the ‌iPhone 17‌ and ‌iPhone 17 Pro‌, rather than the faster rate expected for the new Pro models.

The research also points to further charging improvements arriving with future models. The standard iPhone 18 is said to match the ‌iPhone 18 Pro‌ faster charging, while the iPhone 18e is said to see an even bigger jump of around 69% over the current iPhone 17e. The iPhone Air 2 is said to charge about 27% faster than today's ‌iPhone Air‌.

Actual charging speeds depend on a multitude of real-world factors, such as the phone's temperature and how full the battery already is, so the improvement buyers notice day-to-day could end up being smaller than the numbers suggest.

Apple is expected to unveil the ‌iPhone 18 Pro‌ and ‌iPhone 18 Pro‌ Max, along with its first foldable iPhone, at its "Surprise and shine" event today, while the iPhone 18e, ‌iPhone 18‌, and ‌iPhone Air‌ 2 are rumored to follow in the spring of 2027.

9 September 2026 at 01:03

A bunch of upcoming Apple device identifiers have been found on Apple’s backend. Interestingly, there are 7 iPhone models listed. We only know of 6.

iPhone19,1
iPhone19,2
iPhone19,3
iPhone19,4
iPhone19,5
iPhone19,6
iPhone19,7

Mac17,10
Mac17,11
Mac17,12
Mac17,13
Mac18,1
Mac18,2…

— Aaron (@aaronp613) September 8, 2026

iPhone 18 Launch: Apple Park Prepares for a Bigger In-Person Event

By: Hannah
5 September 2026 at 16:17

iPhone 18 launch, Apple Park, iPhone 18, iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, iPhone Ultra, foldable iPhone, Apple event, September event, John Ternus, Steve Jobs Theater, iOS 27, iPhone camera, variable aperture, liquid metal hinge, foldable display, hands-on event, product launch, Cupertino, smartphone news

The iPhone 18 launch is turning Apple Park into more than a stage for Wednesday’s presentation. The September 9 Apple event already carries unusual expectations around a possible foldable iPhone, a new generation of Pro cameras, and John Ternus’ first major product introduction as CEO. Reports of additional event staff now suggest that the experience awaiting invited media could be larger and more demanding than a conventional iPhone demonstration.

The official event announcement confirms that “Surprise and shine” begins September 9 at 10 a.m. Pacific Time, with worldwide streaming through apple.com, Apple TV, and YouTube. The invited audience will attend from Apple Park, but the increased activity surrounding the event does not necessarily mean that the company will abandon its carefully produced video format for a completely live keynote.

A polished presentation can explain specifications, introduce software, and display new hardware from perfect angles. It cannot reproduce the first sensation of opening a foldable screen, examining a crease under direct light, testing a mechanical hinge, or watching a camera respond as the lighting changes. Those moments happen after the main presentation, inside the hands-on areas where early opinions begin to form.

Apple Park

Apple Park Scales Up for the iPhone 18 Launch

The first indication of a larger operation arrived through an internal program for US retail employees. According to reporting distributed by Bloomberg, store employees were invited to enter a lottery for positions supporting the in-person unveiling.

Selected employees were expected to organize lines, check in guests, provide directions, welcome attendees, and assist security teams. Employees who participated in WWDC 2026 or the iPhone 17 event were reportedly excluded, allowing another group of retail workers to experience the launch.

The existence of the lottery does not prove that the keynote itself will return to a traditional live-stage presentation. Apple has previously recruited retail employees to support events, and the company has not disclosed how many people were selected this year.

It does confirm that the Apple Park gathering requires a substantial customer-facing operation beyond the team producing the presentation. Retail employees already know how to direct visitors, explain products without overwhelming them, manage queues, and identify when someone needs technical help.

Those skills become particularly useful during an event attended by journalists, photographers, analysts, creators, and international guests, all trying to reach the same devices within a short period. Additional staff can prevent the hands-on area from becoming a crowded ring around a few demonstration tables.

The iPhone 18 launch may also require more movement between specialized spaces. A conventional phone can be displayed in rows according to color or size. A foldable model needs room for repeated opening and closing, interface demonstrations, durability questions, and comparisons between its exterior and interior screens. Camera testing requires a different environment again.

Apple Park does not need to undergo a permanent architectural transformation for that expansion. Modular tables, managed lighting, guided demonstrations, additional charging equipment, and more employees can significantly enlarge the experience around Steve Jobs Theater for a single afternoon.

A person holds a foldable smartphone displaying the time, 09:07, in a cozy café with wooden tables, drinks, and a blurred background of people and large windows—perhaps testing out new features on iOS 27 Beta or eagerly comparing it to rumors about the upcoming iPhone 18.

A Foldable iPhone Needs a Different Kind of Demo

The rumored iPhone Ultra is likely to attract the longest lines if it appears on Wednesday. It would represent the first substantially new iPhone form factor since the current full-screen design became established, and its appeal cannot be communicated through processor charts alone.

Visitors will want to know how the hinge feels at different angles, whether the device stays open when partially folded, how much pressure is required to close it, and whether both sides align evenly. They will inspect the central folding area under bright light and move a finger across the display to determine whether the crease is visible, noticeable by touch, or effectively hidden during normal use.

Display stress remains one of the most difficult engineering problems in the foldable category. TrendForce’s analysis of foldable display technology explains that crease reduction depends on controlling stress across the panel’s multilayer structure. Ultra-thin glass, optically clear adhesive, support plates, and the position of the display’s neutral layer can all influence how the screen behaves after repeated folding.

Reports have associated the iPhone Ultra with a liquid-metal hinge and a virtually creaseless internal display, but neither detail has been announced. Even if the production device resembles those descriptions, “virtually creaseless” will remain a subjective claim until people can examine the screen from different angles and under different lighting conditions.

Apple will consequently need demonstration units that are fully accessible rather than fixed behind stands. A journalist should be able to fold the device repeatedly, rotate the internal display, type with the phone partially open, and watch iOS 27 transfer an activity between the exterior and interior screens.

Those interface transitions could be as revealing as the physical hardware. A larger display gains value when an app can reveal another column, create a more capable workspace, or reposition controls without simply enlarging the standard iPhone interface.

Demonstrators may need to direct visitors toward examples that reveal those differences within the limited time available. Mail, Maps, Photos, Safari, video calling, document editing, and drag-and-drop workflows could communicate the benefit of the larger display faster than a static home screen.

The hands-on area must also answer durability questions without pretending that a few minutes can replace months of ownership. Hinge resistance, protection around the folding axis, weight distribution, screen reflections, and off-center visibility can be judged immediately. Long-term wear, dust resistance, and thousands of folding cycles cannot.

Camera Testing Could Become Part of the Event

The Pro camera system is expected to receive one of the lineup’s most technical hardware changes. Previous iPhone 18 Pro camera reporting has centered on a mechanical or variable aperture, which could physically alter the amount of light passing through the main lens.

A conventional fixed-aperture smartphone camera manages exposure through shutter speed, sensor sensitivity, computational processing, and other electronic controls. A mechanical aperture can change the physical opening through which light reaches the sensor. Depending on its design, that could provide additional control over exposure, depth of field, highlights, and the appearance of subjects at different distances.

Current pre-event iPhone 18 expectations indicate that the feature may be exclusive to the iPhone 18 Pro Max, although its final availability will remain uncertain until the presentation.

A normal demonstration table would reveal little about such a camera system. Effective testing requires contrast, motion, faces, reflections, foreground objects, and meaningful changes in brightness.

Apple has previously used prepared scenes to demonstrate cameras, making controlled lighting stations a reasonable possibility for the iPhone 18 launch. No dependable report has confirmed that a dedicated photography pavilion or a particular new installation has been constructed for Wednesday, however.

A useful setup would allow creators to move between bright and dim areas while watching the aperture respond. A foreground object positioned near a person could demonstrate changes in depth of field. Directional lights could reveal highlight handling, while a darker scene could test whether the physical aperture works smoothly with computational photography.

Video creates another challenge. Any aperture adjustment during recording must appear gradual rather than causing sudden jumps in exposure or background separation. If manual control is available, photographers will immediately look for the number of supported aperture positions and whether a chosen setting can be locked before recording.

These demonstrations would offer the in-person audience something that cannot be reproduced during the stream. The presentation can display carefully selected photographs and video clips, but activity around the camera stations will reveal how quickly professionals understand the controls and whether the results remain convincing outside a prepared promotional sequence.

John Ternus Faces His First Apple Park Test

Wednesday’s event will be John Ternus’ first major product launch as CEO. That creates an unusual balance between continuity and change. The campus, production team, executives, and controlled demonstrations remain familiar, while the person responsible for the final message has changed.

Ternus does not need to replace every established event practice during his first days in the role. A larger in-person component would let him place more attention on direct product experience without sacrificing the timing and visual precision of a prerecorded presentation.

A live welcome, appearances around the campus, and extended media access after the video could establish his presence without forcing the event into an entirely different format. His background in hardware engineering also makes this a suitable launch for more detailed demonstrations, particularly if the lineup includes a new hinge, display construction, or mechanical camera component.

The hardware surrounding the iPhone 18 launch will test how well the company explains unfamiliar decisions. A foldable iPhone must justify its size, construction, software behavior, and likely premium price within minutes. The Pro camera must demonstrate an advantage that remains visible after computational processing. Accessories must protect new shapes without making them unpleasant to hold.

Retail employees working at Apple Park can observe those reactions closely. They will hear which controls require an explanation, which accessories create hesitation, and which claims prompt the same questions repeatedly. That experience can return to stores before customers begin arriving for demonstrations of their own.

The Hands-On Area Becomes the Real Examination

Apple controls every frame of its presentation video, but it cannot control every observation made after the screens turn off. A foldable display will be photographed from difficult angles. Its hinge will be opened hundreds of times. Camera samples will be compared before visitors have left Apple Park. Any awkward transition, reflection, or confusing control will circulate within minutes.

This makes the in-person operation more demanding than a larger guest list might suggest. Every demonstration unit must remain charged, connected, clean, updated, and ready for the next visitor. Foldable devices may require closer inspection between sessions, while camera areas need staff who understand both the feature and the conditions created to demonstrate it.

The employees around those spaces should provide enough guidance to help visitors locate unfamiliar features without turning every interaction into another scripted presentation. Excessive control makes a demonstration feel artificial; too little creates confusion and crowded tables.

Apple Park therefore becomes a second launch platform after the worldwide stream. The video introduces the products, while the hands-on area exposes them to fingers, lenses, questions, and immediate judgment. By Wednesday afternoon, the questions repeated most frequently around those demonstration tables may offer the first indication of how easily the iPhone 18 lineup can explain itself.

Quinta beta do iOS 27 faz referência a seis iPhones ainda não lançados

11 August 2026 at 15:27
