Samsung Galaxy SmartTag 3 Leak Suggests New Rounded-Square Design Ahead of Expected Year-End Launch

2 August 2026 at 15:49

Igeekphone News: August 2, 2026 – Samsung is reportedly preparing to introduce the Galaxy SmartTag 3, the next generation of its Bluetooth tracking accessory, with a redesigned appearance that aligns more closely with the company’s current hardware and software design language.

According to recent leaks, the upcoming smart tracker will feature an all-new rounded-square design, marking a significant departure from its predecessor while maintaining familiar functionality.

A Return to Samsung’s Family Design Language

Based on the leaked information, the Galaxy SmartTag 3 adopts a shape that sits between a square and a circle, featuring gently rounded corners that mirror the aesthetic of One UI app icons and Samsung’s latest wearable devices, including the Galaxy Watch 9.

The redesign represents another evolution in the SmartTag series’ appearance:

  • Galaxy SmartTag (1st generation): Rounded-square design
  • Galaxy SmartTag 2: Capsule-inspired shape with an integrated keyring opening
  • Galaxy SmartTag 3: Refined rounded-square design that emphasizes visual consistency across Samsung’s ecosystem

The updated design appears intended to create a more cohesive look alongside Samsung’s expanding portfolio of Galaxy devices.

Lanyard Hole May No Longer Be Built In

One notable change suggested by the leak is the apparent removal of the integrated lanyard or keyring hole found on the previous generation.

If accurate, users who want to attach the tracker to keys, backpacks, luggage, or other personal belongings may need to purchase a dedicated protective case or accessory with a built-in attachment point.

While this approach could improve the overall aesthetics of the device, it may reduce convenience for users who prefer attaching the tracker directly without additional accessories.

Physical Button Returns for Quick Controls

The leaked design also shows the return of a central physical button, continuing a feature introduced in earlier SmartTag models.

The button is expected to support multiple shortcuts, including:

  • Single press: Ring a connected Galaxy smartphone to help locate it nearby.
  • Double press: Trigger user-defined automation routines through Samsung’s Modes and Routines feature (formerly known as Bixby Routines).

This functionality allows the tracker to serve not only as a location device but also as a convenient smart home or productivity shortcut.

Expected Features

Although Samsung has yet to announce official specifications, the Galaxy SmartTag 3 is expected to retain the core technologies that power previous models, including:

  • Bluetooth connectivity
  • Ultra-Wideband (UWB) support for precise directional tracking (on compatible Galaxy devices)
  • Compatibility with Samsung’s SmartThings Find network
  • Dust and water resistance rated at IP67 or possibly IP68

Some reports also suggest the new tracker could adopt Bluetooth 6.0, potentially improving location accuracy, connection stability, and power efficiency. However, it remains unclear whether battery life will improve over the previous generation.

Expected Launch Timeline

Samsung has not officially confirmed the Galaxy SmartTag 3, but current reports suggest the accessory could debut before the end of 2026.

Industry observers expect it may launch alongside other upcoming Galaxy devices, including the rumored Galaxy S26 FE smartphone and the Galaxy Tab S12 tablet series, as part of Samsung’s year-end product lineup.

Final Thoughts

The leaked Galaxy SmartTag 3 appears to focus on refining Samsung’s existing smart tracking platform rather than introducing major functional changes. A redesigned rounded-square form factor, continued support for Bluetooth and UWB tracking, SmartThings Find integration, and programmable physical controls suggest Samsung is prioritizing design consistency and everyday usability.

If the reported specifications prove accurate, the Galaxy SmartTag 3 could become a compelling option for Galaxy users seeking a reliable item tracker that integrates seamlessly with Samsung’s broader ecosystem. More details, including pricing, battery performance, and regional availability, are expected to emerge closer to the product’s official launch.

Samsung Galaxy S26 FE, l'ultimo leak svela le fotocamere

2 August 2026 at 14:45

FTSE 100 on track for best month since first US attacks on Iran five months ago – as it happened

31 July 2026 at 15:10

Live, rolling coverage as London’s biggest companies defy Middle East disruption and UK petrol prices rise to around £1.60 per litre, the highest since Donald Trump ordered renewed strikes

The story piquing the interest of the financial press this morning is that of Leopold Aschenbrenner, the AI Wunderkind (he’s German-born) who has been forced to sell off his fund in a fire sale after the AI boom ran out of steam.

The 24-year-old had persuaded a lot of people to give him a lot of money for a hedge fund, after previously working for OpenAI and the FTX Future Fund, a charitable arm of the fraudulent crypto empire of Sam Bankman-Fried, who is now in prison. Aschenbrenner ploughed that money into debt-fuelled bets on artificial intelligence companies, earning huge returns until he found out that stocks can also fall.

The trader dubbed the “Nostradamus of AI” would have been hard-pressed to foresee how quickly his high-flying hedge fund would run into trouble.

The firm’s rapid downward spiral is a familiar tale, as Silicon Valley and Wall Street once again threw their weight behind a bright-eyed but untested investor who promised this time would be different. “Everybody always wants to find the next golden child,” said one longtime hedge fund executive. “It just keeps happening.”

In less than 24 hours — which included a conversation between Griffin and Aschenbrenner — Griffin’s Citadel hedge fund reached out to Situational Awareness and snapped up the investments at a discount, according to a person familiar with the matter who asked not to be identified citing private information.

It was a startling reversal for Aschenbrenner, a former researcher at OpenAI who – before starting his hedge fund roughly two years ago — had no previous investment experience. His fledging firm has watched its assets plunge from $45bn at the start of July to about $10bn.

Samsung experiences both sides of memory boom

30 July 2026 at 11:47

Samsung Electronics booked an operating loss at its mobile division in Q2 due to elevated component costs and revealed plans for efficiency initiatives at the unit, as it registered another all-time high in overall quarterly earnings driven by memory sales.

Its Mobile eXperience (MX) division and associated Networks Business recorded an operating loss of KRW700 billion ($480 million) compared with a profit of KRW2.8 trillion in Q2 2025. Revenue was up 14% to KRW33.2 trillion

Samsung noted despite “solid sales” of its flagship Galaxy S26 devices and “strong momentum” for its lower-end Galaxy A series, “earnings declined due to elevated component cost pressures across the industry”.

The company plans to continue its focus on providing AI experiences on its devices and “drive overall market share growth based on flagship-first expansion centred on the new Galaxy Z8 and S26 series”.

It also flagged plans to launch smart eyewear and “pursue efficiency initiatives to mitigate the impact of rising costs”.

For networks, it pointed to improved earnings supported by increased sales outside of its home market of South Korea.

While the company suffered from rising component costs for its devices, Samsung’s memory chip business recorded what it described as an all-time high in quarterly revenue and operating profit.

The Device Solutions division, which houses the memory unit, booked an 89% increase in operating profit to KRW89.2 trillion on revenue up 357% to KRW127.5 trillion.

Across the whole of Samsung Electronics, revenue was up 130% to KRW171.5 trillion and net profit grew from KRW5.1 trillion to KRW71.6 trillion.

Samsung Galaxy S27 Pro and S27 Ultra Camera Specs Leak: Sony IMX855 Ultra-Wide Sensor and Upgraded Selfie Camera Tipped

25 July 2026 at 13:17

Samsung’s next-generation flagship smartphones are beginning to take shape as new leaks reveal key camera specifications for the upcoming Galaxy S27 series. According to a recent report from WinFuture, Samsung is preparing significant imaging upgrades for its 2027 flagship lineup, particularly for the Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra.

Samsung Galaxy S27 Series Codenames Revealed

The leaked internal database suggests that the Galaxy S27 family will consist of four models, each carrying the “Next Miracle” (NM) codename:

  • NM1 – Samsung Galaxy S27
  • NM2 – Samsung Galaxy S27+
  • NM3 – Samsung Galaxy S27 Pro
  • NM4 – Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra

The “NM” designation reportedly stands for “Next Miracle,” succeeding the “Miracle” (M) codename used internally for the Galaxy S26 series.

Sony IMX855 to Power the Ultra-Wide Cameras

One of the biggest highlights of the leak is Samsung’s reported decision to adopt the Sony IMX855 sensor for the ultra-wide cameras on both the Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra.

According to the leaked specifications, the Sony IMX855 features:

  • 1/2.55-inch sensor size
  • 0.7μm pixel size
  • Designed for improved ultra-wide image quality and low-light performance

Although the megapixel count has not been confirmed in the report, the sensor represents a notable shift as Samsung continues to incorporate Sony imaging technology into its premium smartphones.

New 16MP Autofocus Selfie Camera

Samsung is also expected to introduce a completely redesigned front-facing camera for its flagship models.

Both the Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra are rumored to feature:

  • 16MP front camera
  • Samsung-developed image sensor
  • Autofocus support

Interestingly, the internal database reportedly indicates that the Galaxy S27 Pro’s selfie camera may even include optical image stabilization (OIS)—a feature rarely seen on front-facing smartphone cameras. If implemented, this would significantly improve selfie photography and video recording stability.

Galaxy S26 Ultra Camera Setup for Comparison

For reference, the current Galaxy S26 Ultra reportedly features the following camera configuration:

  • 200MP Samsung ISOCELL HP2 main camera with upgraded f/1.4 aperture
  • 50MP Samsung ISOCELL JN3 ultra-wide camera
  • 50MP Sony IMX854 5× periscope telephoto camera
  • 12MP Sony IMX874 front-facing camera

Compared with its predecessor, the Galaxy S27 flagship models appear set to receive both a new ultra-wide sensor and a higher-resolution autofocus selfie camera.

Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S27+ Expected Camera Configuration

The leak also provides preliminary details for the standard Galaxy S27 models.

The Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S27+ are expected to feature:

  • 50MP primary camera with optical image stabilization (OIS)
  • 12MP ultra-wide camera
  • A dedicated telephoto camera with currently unknown resolution and optical zoom capability

Additional specifications are expected to emerge as Samsung moves closer to the official launch.

Early Outlook

While Samsung has yet to confirm any details regarding the Galaxy S27 lineup, the latest leak suggests the company is continuing to refine its camera hardware rather than pursuing dramatic specification increases. The introduction of the Sony IMX855 ultra-wide sensor, a 16MP autofocus selfie camera, and the possibility of OIS on the front camera could represent meaningful upgrades for users who prioritize mobile photography and content creation.

As with all pre-release information, these specifications should be treated as rumors until Samsung officially unveils the Galaxy S27 series. More details about the devices’ processors, displays, batteries, and launch timeline are expected to surface in the coming months.

Samsung Galaxy S27 series: conferme sul Pro e filtrano informazioni sulle fotocamere

24 July 2026 at 18:05

The Friday File: OpenAI; Samsung; World Cup

24 July 2026 at 12:03

Mobile World Live brings you our top three picks of the week as OpenAI’s models hacked an AI start-up during testing, Samsung unveiled its latest AI-powered foldables, and Verizon and AT&T logged record World Cup network traffic.

OpenAI models hack AI start-up

What happened: OpenAI revealed that a combination of its advanced AI models autonomously breached a controlled testing environment and launched a cyberattack on AI start-up Hugging Face.

Why it matters: During an internal benchmark designed to evaluate advanced cyber capabilities, the models exploited vulnerabilities in OpenAI’s research infrastructure to gain internet access before using stolen credentials and zero-day flaws to access Hugging Face’s systems. OpenAI said it had intentionally relaxed cyber safeguards in the sandboxed environment to test the models’ capabilities, stating the models were “hyperfocused” on completing the evaluation task and went to “extreme lengths”, though the company warned such events are likely to “become more commonplace” as models grow more capable.

Jason Goode, VP at IT service AppViewX, argued “this is the wake-up call the industry needed”, as the models “didn’t defeat their guardrails so much as exploit what their environments already permitted”. He said the episode underlined the “why model governance alone was never going to be enough” and how “the control point has to be the agent’s identity and what it’s actually allowed to touch”. Meanwhile Dan Gray, chief systems architect at technology R&D firm ChronoDyne Systems, added the incident should not be viewed as AI “going rogue”, but as a “cross-organisational control-chain failure” in which the models provided the “speed, persistence and adaptive exploitation capability”, while the organisations supplied “the objective, permissions, infrastructure and attack surface”.

Samsung unveils 3 new foldables packed with AI

What happened: Samsung Electronics expanded its foldables portfolio with three new smartphones at its latest Galaxy Unpacked event in London.

Why it matters: The lineup washeadlined by the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Samsung’s first foldable to carry the Ultra branding. The vendor also refreshed the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Flip8, placing AI capabilities and slimmer designs at the centre. Alongside the handsets, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Watch9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra2, while teasing AI-enabled smart glasses developed with Google and Qualcomm. Futuresource Consulting principal analyst Rasika D’Souza noted that despite forecasts smartwatch shipments will top 200 million units in 2026, the market is maturing as growth shifts to wearables including smart glasses and rings, an opportunity targeted by Samsung. She added the event showed Samsung’s strategy “has evolved from simple integration of AI features to now creating AI assistants that can assist meaningfully in daily tasks”. Meanwhile, FDM CCS Insight chief analyst Ben Wood said Samsung is “doubling down on foldables at exactly the moment the category is about to get its biggest credibility boost”, arguing Apple’s rumoured launch of a foldable iPhone later this year “could also be the moment that turns foldables from a niche premium category into a mainstream flagship battleground”.

Verizon, AT&T tally massive data usage during World Cup

What happened: Verizon and AT&T outlined the scale of network infrastructure deployed to support connectivity during the FIFA World Cup, reporting record data traffic and major capacity upgrades across US host venues.

Why it matters: Verizon said its network carried almost 500TB of data across all US host stadiums. The operator boosted stadium capacity by three to five times, installed thousands of under-seat and overhead antennas, and deployed nearly 140 small-cell projects and temporary sites beyond venues. Verizon described the World Cup as an opportunity to “test, refine, and validate our enterprise network capabilities, stressing that many upgrades will remain after the tournament to extend the value of the infrastructure into long-term assets for host cities. Meanwhile, AT&T reported it carried around one petabyte of nationwide traffic during the tournament after preparing its network for two to three times normal demand across 11 US host cities and 146 venues. Verizon’s deployment supported live broadcast production alongside fan connectivity, while AT&T highlighted the role of its FirstNet public safety network in coordinating emergency services.

Samsung unveils 3 new foldables packed with AI

22 July 2026 at 17:12

Samsung Electronics expanded its foldables lineup with a trio of smartphones at its Galaxy Unpacked event in London, including the first Ultra-branded foldable as it pushed upgraded form factors and AI-powered features.

Leading the charge was the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, the first device to carry Samsung’s Ultra branding on a foldable. Measuring 4.1mm when unfolded, Samsung said the device is its thinnest Galaxy Fold model to date.

Powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform for Galaxy, the handset features an 8-inch main display, 5,000mAh battery and a 200MP main camera. It also introduced new Galaxy AI tools including Gemini Notebook, capable of summarising documents and generating content from uploaded files, and Now Nudge, a contextual Galaxy AI feature designed to proactively prompt actions based on user activity.

Samsung also refreshed the Galaxy Z Fold8 with a redesigned display format and adjustable aspect ratios aimed at improving content consumption across video, gaming and reading. The device weighs 201 grams, making it the company’s lightest Fold model, and includes a 4,800mAh battery rated for more than 26 hours of video playback. The Fold8 also introduced an AI-powered editing tool to automatically track and reframe a subject in a video.

In the clamshell segment, Samsung updated the Galaxy Z Flip8 with expanded functionality on its FlexWindow cover display, enabling users to access apps, messages and personalised AI information without opening the handset. The latest Flip model also adds a 50MP main camera and dual recording mode for capturing both subject and creator simultaneously.

Pricing starts at $2,099 for the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, $1,899 for the Galaxy Z Fold8 and $1,199 for the Galaxy Z Flip8. All three models will be available from 7 August.

At the event, TM Roh, CEO, president and head of Samsung Electronics’ Device eXperience division, emphasised the importance of foldables in the AI era.

“The question is: if AI is becoming more personal, more proactive, and more multidimensional, what is the optimal device to bring that experience to life? We believe the answer is foldables.”

Wearables
Samsung also refreshed its wearables portfolio with the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Galaxy Watch9, its first watches built on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear Elite platform.

The smartwatches introduce new AI-powered health features, with the vendor claiming both models received an FDA-cleared sleep apnea detection update. The Galaxy Watch9 starts at $379, while the Watch Ultra2 is priced from $699.

In addition, Samsung unveiled intelligent eyewear, although pricing and a release date were not disclosed.

Doubling down
Ben Wood, chief analyst at CCS Insight, said Samsung is “doubling down on foldables at exactly the moment the category is about to get its biggest credibility boost with the much-rumoured arrival of a folding iPhone later in the year.”

He said Apple’s expected entry “could also be the moment that turns foldables from a niche premium category into a mainstream flagship battleground.”

Wood added “Qualcomm is one of the quiet winners from Samsung’s latest launch, securing important design wins across phones, watches and glasses.”

Samsung unveils new Galaxy Z8 foldables and Galaxy Watches, available August 7

22 July 2026 at 14:58

The rumors haven't left much to the imagination, but Samsung has unfurled its 2026 foldable lineup today. There are three models for the first time in Samsung's eight-gen foldable family, including the top-of-the-line Z Fold 8 Ultra. That phone is the successor to last year's Galaxy Z Fold 7, but the Z Fold 8 is new—the company's first wide-body foldable designed for media over multitasking. And then there's a new, thinner flip phone, plus a pair of smartwatches.

You can preorder Samsung's new hardware today, but the component shortage has made these already spendy product lines more expensive this year. Even the Z Flip 8 is now well over a grand, and the Ultra costs almost twice as much.

The Z Fold 8 Ultra has the same basic form factor as the last few Samsung tablet-style foldables. A 6.5-inch OLED on the outside is about the same ratio as a standard smartphone screen. Open it up, and you get an 8-inch display that's roughly twice as wide. That makes the main display close to square.

Samsung anuncia Galaxy Z Fold8, Z Fold8 Ultra e Z Flip8, além de novos smartwatches

22 July 2026 at 17:51
