How to watch Leeds vs Liverpool for FREE: pre-season friendly live streams from anywhere

2 August 2026 at 19:00

Today's Leeds vs Liverpool live streams sees the two Premier League clubs play the final game of their US tour at Soldier Field in Chicago, with new Reds manager Andoni Iraola hunting a third win in three matches.

After a 3-2 defeat by Championship side Wrexham and a clash with Premier League rivals Sunderland, Leeds will aim to finish their US tour on a high. Fans got their first glimpse of Harry Wilson in Leeds colours after the summer signing came on as a second-half substitute against Wrexham and the Welshman could feature against Liverpool, where he came through the academy. Fellow new boy Tarik Muharemovic could also be in line for his debut. Daniel Farke's side have just three pre-season friendlies left after this game, with a home fixture against German side RB Leipzig next up on Saturday.

Iraola is eyeing a clean sweep in America after making it two wins out of two as Liverpool boss with a 1-0 victory over Wrexham, thanks to Rio Ngumoha's second-half strike. Stand-in captain Dominik Szoboszlai started at centre back in that game, underlining the Reds' lack of options in the heart of defence, but Jeremy Jacquet could make his debut following his £60m move from French club Rennes. Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz and Ryan Gravenberch could also feature for the first time under Iraola after joining the tour late following the World Cup. After this clash, Liverpool will fly home before facing Monaco and Como at Anfield on the next two Sundays.

This May Be the Most Damning Single Fact in Tesla’s Quarterly Earnings Report

24 July 2026 at 19:07

Tesla’s latest earnings report was very bad news for the company. In the second quarter, it made $1.1 billion in net profit, less than the $1.2 billion it reported a year earlier. Vehicle sales were up, but profits remain about a quarter billion short of expectations, and the automaker’s cash flow is negative for the first time in over two years.

But the real blow has been the slow rollout of its Robotaxi service. Elon Musk has staked his automaker’s future on fully autonomous vehicles, promising investors it would help push Tesla’s valuation to an eyebrow-raising $30 trillion — approximately the gross domestic product of the United States, for perspective.

And importantly, he promised to get this done quickly. Before launching Tesla’s first Robotaxi service in Austin last summer, Musk estimated that over 1,000 of the self-driving cabs would be roaming the streets “within a few months.”

Now, a year later, Tesla doesn’t even have a hundred Robotaxis in operation. And its efforts seem to actually be regressing. According to a new chart the company released Wednesday, the Robotaxi network racked up fewer miles from paying customers in the second quarter than it did in the first.

The chart, which may be the most dismal single aspect of the entire earnings cycle, misleadingly displays this data as cumulative miles to make it appear like the Robotaxi service is steadily growing.

But TechCrunch broke it down, finding that in the first quarter, Tesla’s driverless cabs carrying paying passengers drove around 1.1 million miles, but fell to just 700,000 miles in the second — cratering by over a third.

The misleading chart isn’t the only way Tesla has tried to dress up its stalling efforts. A day before releasing the earnings report, it announced that it was expanding to two more cities in Florida, Tampa and Orlando — without sharing the size of those fleets, Electrek noted.

It should tell you something that Tesla has gone to great lengths to keep the size of its operation under wraps. In June, Bloomberg reported that its fleet size across all cities was just 59 robotaxis. Only third of those are fully unsupervised; the other vehicles have a human safety monitor sitting in the front seats.

It’s also tried to play up its seemingly spotless safety record. Before the report, the official Tesla account on X bragged that there were “0 notable incidents across over 380,000 miles traveled by Robotaxi.”

But Tesla doesn’t define what a “notable incident” is. Its vehicles have regularly been caught driving erratically and at times dangerously. Only a day after launching in Tampa, one of its Robotaxis was spotted blundering the wrong way down a one way street in the city.

Musk has frequently emphasized that he’s “paranoid about safety” to explain why progress has moved slowly, while at the same time promising to scale things up rapidly. In January he projected that the Robotaxis would cover half the US population by the end of the year.

But investors are running out of patience. Tesla shares plunged by 15 percent on Thursday after the earnings were released, in part due to frustration over the Robotaxis’ laggard progress, and another three percent on Friday.

“More is needed to show that Tesla’s capabilities are inflecting” on robotaxis, Barclays analysts said in a note per Reuters, noting that Tesla didn’t provide new expansion targets and “hasn’t met previously laid out targets.”

It’s Looking Like the Cybertruck Is the Biggest Flop in Automotive History

24 July 2026 at 15:55

The Cybertruck is a flop.

For all of Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s grandiose claims that the pickup would be an “apocalypse-proof” tank capable of winning its driver style points wherever they go, it’s instead earned a reputation for being incredibly unreliable and just about the opposite of “easy on the eyes” — probably because you can imagine the numerous sharp edges that define its low-poly design poking you in them as soon as you see it.

Most unforgivable in the capitalist society Musk champions, it hasn’t sold well. He once estimated that Tesla would sell up to 500,000 Cybertrucks annually, but it hasn’t even come close to that number in the nearly three years since it first started shipping, and at this point it probably won’t in its entire lifetime.

So, yes. It’s a flop. But could it also be the greatest flop in American automotive history?

A new piece from Bloomberg makes the case, comparing the Tesla vehicle to the misfortunes of Ford’s Edsel, which was first introduced in 1957 and discontinued just two years later. After spending years building up hype for the car, Ford predicted selling 200,000 units in its first year, but ended up selling less than a third of that.

That’s comparable to expectations versus reality of the Cybertruck. In fact, the Cybertruck is actually doing worse in key ways. Tesla’s annual sales target was 250,000 units, but it didn’t even crack 40,000 sales in its first year. And like the Edsel, it’s sold less with each successive year, with barely 7,100 registered in the US in 2026 so far, according to S&P Global Mobility data — despite Musk juicing those figures by selling Cybertrucks to his own companies.

And like the Cybertruck, the Edsel’s unusual design was also widely mocked. The most notorious feature was its vertical grille, which many jokesters compared to a toilet seat. A review in Time magazine sealed its fate by observing that it looked like “an Oldsmobile sucking a lemon.”

“For most people it was just downright ugly,” Don Sherman, a journalist and auto historian, told Bloomberg.

The exterior wasn’t the only weird — and doomed — thing about the Edsel. In it, Ford debuted a new “Teletouch” push-button shift placed in the center of the steering wheel — yep, right where most cars have a horn button. It confused drivers and frequently malfunctioned.

(And spiritually, it’s hard to ignore, the Teletouch evokes Tesla’s insistence on hiding features that traditionally have physical buttons in a central touch screen.)

The Edsel is generally cited as the American automotive industry’s biggest disaster. But the projected annual sales target compared to actual sales is actually worse for the Cybertruck. It may be time to put a new car on this ignominious throne.

But will Tesla discontinue the Cybertruck the same way Ford dropped the Edsel? Maybe not. The Cybertruck is a point of pride for Musk and has become synonymous with his vision. Garrett Nelson, an equity analyst at CFRA Research, thinks it’s more likely the truck will “fade away.”

“It’s possible that they try to do some sort of redesign, or come up with a different variant to try to boost sales,” Nelson told Bloomberg, “but we think that would really be a futile effort.”

Tesla Stock in Freefall After Disastrous Earnings Report

23 July 2026 at 15:44

Shares of Elon Musk’s embattled carmaker Tesla slid over 13 percent Thursday morning after posting dismal second quarter results the night before.

The stock is hovering at around $324 at the time of writing, down over 15 percent over the last five days and about 28 percent year to date.

The company missed Wall Street expectations, despite its core automotive segment generating just over $20 billion in revenue, up 23 percent from a year ago. However, the company’s gross profits dropped as operating expenses climbed far quicker than revenue, in large part thanks to AI-related capital expenses and other research and development — an intimately familiar refrain for the tech world in 2026.

In other words, investors are growing increasingly wary of Musk’s reinvention of his car business. The almost-trillionaire is trying to shift the company’s focus from selling cars to robotaxis, a humanoid robot called Optimus, and AI — a series of major undertakings that’re clearly weighing it down financially after multiple quarters of major losses.

Worse yet, Tesla’s woes are clearly having knock-on effects on his rocket company as well. SpaceX’s stock has had a bruising month since hitting an all-time high after going public in mid-June. An aborted Starship test launch and Musk’s dubious plan for orbital data centers have investors betting against the company in incredible numbers.

During Wednesday’s earnings call, the company claimed that production of its Optimus humanoid robot remains on track, but didn’t elaborate beyond promising that production is starting “soon.”

“This is going to be the hardest product to scale manufacturing that we’ve ever made at Tesla, because everything on the robot is new,” Musk said.

Tesla’s robotaxi service is also being rolled out to six major metropolitan areas across the country, but continues to lag far behind its key competitor, Alphabet’s Waymo.

Despite slightly more optimistic vehicle sales numbers, the company continues to burn through billions of dollars to keep all of those new plates spinning.

The elephant in the room during this week’s call was the long-rumored possibility of Musk merging Tesla and SpaceX — a doubling down on his portfolio that could set up some of the most unbelievable financial drama in economic history.

The mercurial entrepreneur didn’t rule out the possibility, saying that “we can’t talk about combining companies on an earnings call.”

“It’s got to be done with the appropriate process,” he added.

Amazon’s Robotaxi Company Recalls Its Fleet After One of its Cars Got Confused by Heavy Smoke

19 July 2026 at 14:30

Zoox, the Amazon-owned robotaxi company, issued a recall after one of its self-driving cars blundered into a cloud of heavy smoke near a fire scene that emergency workers were responding to, and became confused.

The recall, in the form of a software update, will affect its entire fleet of 105 autonomous robotaxis.

The patch “enhances the existing capability of detecting active [emergency] scenes by adding the ability to detect and respond to heavy smoke in certain situations,” Zoox told TechCrunch in a statement.

While you wouldn’t be remiss for thinking this was related to the wildfire smoke covering much of the eastern US right now, the recall highlights how self-driving cars still struggle to respond to unpredictable conditions.

In a report filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Zoox said that during the June 20 incident, one of its robotaxis “encountered heavy smoke that obscured an active emergency fire scene that was not cordoned off with cones.”

Though it should have avoided the smoke cloud, the vehicle, which wasn’t carrying any passengers, “braked hard while attempting to steer away before coming to a stop,” the company added. Eventually, a teleoperator intervened and helped reverse the robotaxi away from the scene, allowing first responders to place traffic cones to block off two of the three lanes. CNBC reported that the incident occurred in Las Vegas, where Zoox is currently offering free rides.

It’s not the first time robotaxi companies have landed in hot water for impeding emergency responders.

San Francisco Police were forced to help move immobilized Waymo robotaxis that piled up in roadways in intersections during a city-wide power outage last year. Emergency responders complained they’d become glorified “roadside assistance” for the vehicles. In March, a Waymo robotaxi blocked an ambulance from responding to the scene of a deadly mass shooting in Austin, Texas.

These mounting incidents led NHTSA administrator Jonathan Morrison to send a strongly-worded letter to robotaxi companies, calling their cars’ interference with emergency responders “unacceptable.”

“Let me be clear: the inability to detect and appropriately respond to such situations represents a functional insufficiency,” he wrote. “Emergency scenes are not rare or extreme ‘edge cases.'”

“To state it bluntly: an AV that cannot safely interact with first responders is a danger to the general public,” he added.

How to watch France vs England: Free Streams, TV Channels & Kick-Off time for FIFA World Cup 2026 third place play-off

18 July 2026 at 19:00

Kylian Mbappe is set to face Real Madrid team-mate Jude Bellingham as France take on England in the FIFA World Cup 2026 third place play-off in Miami — and you can live stream the game around the world for free.

Les Bleus were many people's favourites to win the tournament, but a deeply disappointing 2-0 defeat by Spain in the semi-finals ended their hopes of lifting the World Cup for a third time. While a bronze medal would feel like scant consolation, France will nonetheless be motivated to triumph. Manager Didier Deschamps ends a hugely successful 14-year spell in charge of Les Bleus after this game and he will be keen to finish on a high, while captain Mbappe heads into the last weekend of the tournament level on eight goals with Lionel Messi in the race for the Golden Boot.

England's semi-final defeat was even more crushing than their opponents', as they conceded twice late on to lose 2-1 to bitter rivals Argentina. It means the Three Lions' years of hurt will stretch beyond 60 after they fell short yet again, having reached at least the semi-finals in four of the past five major tournaments. England beat Norway in Miami in the quarter-finals seven days ago, and if they triumph here again it would represent their best showing at a World Cup other than when they lifted the trophy in 1966, having lost their previous two third-place games in 1990 and 2018.

How to watch Argentina vs England for FREE: Live Streams, Team News & TV Channels for Nations Championship 2026

18 July 2026 at 17:15

The England vs Argentina game in midweek featured a few challenges that wouldn't have looked out of place on a rugby pitch, but after a feisty taster, it's now time for the main event. Both sides lost their Nations Championship 2026 opener before roaring back last weekend to set up a mouthwatering showdown in Santiago del Estero.

Such is the strength of feeling between these two nations that Steve Borthwick's men have made an effort to keep as low a profile as possible in Argentina this week. Quite how that's possible with Henry Pollock in the group deserves an explanation that may prove every bit as fascinating as the game itself.

The divisive flanker came off the bench to score a hat-trick in an 8–73 victory over an abysmal Fiji last weekend, but Borthwick still doesn't trust the 21-year-old enough to throw him in from the start. He's named an unchanged XV, which means Fin Smith and Jack van Poortvliet start in the halves, with Marcus Smith at full-back.

Justo Piccardo, Marcos Kremer and Santiago Carreras crossed the whitewash for Los Pumas and Joaquin Oviedo scored a brace in a five-try thrashing of Wales. It was the perfect response from Felipe Contepomi's men, who had previously gone down to Scotland in disappointing fashion. Carreras will be a threat with his link-up play at Estadio San Juan del Bicentenario.

Read on as we explain how to watch Argentina vs England for free in the 2026 Nations Championship.

How to watch South Africa vs Wales for FREE: Live streams, TV channels, team news for Nations Championship 2026

18 July 2026 at 13:30

The moment Wales have dreaded for months has arrived with Matchday 3 of Nations Championship 2026 – a clash with the Springboks in South Africa. Rassie Erasmus hasn't yet put out anywhere near a full-strength team, yet the world champions have cruised to a pair of bonus-point victories that place them right at the top of the Southern Hemisphere standings.

Although there have been plenty of positives for Wales, who beat the Barbarians and Fiji after closing out their Six Nations campaign with a shock victory over Italy, they were brought back to earth with a bump last weekend. They conceded five tries in a 35-21 beatdown by Argentina, who simply overpowered Steve Tandy's men.

Cue the most muscular team in rugby. South Africa meted out Wales' heaviest ever home defeat the last time the sides met, a 73-0 hammering in Cardiff last November. The 10 changes that Erasmus has made to the starting lineup means a repeat of sorts is unlikely in Durban today, but Wales will still be braced for the worst.

Fly-half Vusi Moyo is one of four Springboks debutants, along with Jaco Williams, Ruben van Heerden and Carlu Sadie, while Pieter-Steph du Toit continues to deputise for injured skipper Siya Kolisi. Wales' own captain Dewi Lake has been deemed fit enough to start following a groin concern, while Louis Rees-Zammit returns to the starting lineup at right wing as part of a raft of six changes.

Read on as we explain how to watch South Africa vs Wales for free in the 2026 Nations Championship.

How to watch Fiji vs Scotland: FREE streams, TV channels for Nations Championship 2026

18 July 2026 at 12:00

Watch Fiji vs Scotland live streams in what is the final chance for both teams to collect points in the 2026 Nations Championship before the tournament pauses until November. Officially an away fixture for Scotland, the game at Murrayfield is the final stop of Fiji’s UK residency after games in Cardiff and Liverpool.

Under acting head coach Senirusi Seruvakula, Fiji’s shortcomings have been clear for all to see. Ill-disciplined and lacking cohesion, they were at least competitive in the 39-24 loss to out-of-form Wales. The same cannot be said about their display against England as they were crushed 73-8. They’ll be desperate to make amends in Edinburgh and put in a performance like the one they produced last summer in Suva when they beat Scotland 29-14.

Scotland will be confident of avenging that defeat after their opening two matches showed they can be competitive against the Southern Hemisphere’s best teams. They impressed in an emphatic 47-38 victory over Argentina in Córdoba before putting in a battling display in a 42-28 defeat to South Africa in Pretoria. Gregor Townsend has run the changes for this one though with no inclusion for a number of players including Ben White and Finn Russell. The only starting XV member remaining from last week is number 8, Gregor Brown.

How to watch Australia vs Italy: FREE streams, TV channels for Nations Championship 2026 game

18 July 2026 at 09:00

Two sides with less-than-clever records meet on Matchday 3 of the Nations Championship 2026 as Australia host Italy in Perth. Joe Schmidt takes charge of the Wallabies for the final time with both teams desperate to avoid ending the Southern Hemisphere Series with three defeats from three.

Schmidt has more than a little pride on his agenda to go out on high. His Wallabies side are on a six-game losing streak, winning just one of their past 10 outings. Another defeat here and Schmidt will end an ignominious two-year spell with the lowest win percentage of any Aussie coach in the professional era. The Kiwi has kept faith with Declan Meredith at fly half after last weekend's 42-26 loss to France, with Ben Donaldson returning to the bench. Local Perth hero Carlo Tizzano gets the nod in the back row, with Fraser McReight on the bench. Max Jorgensen again starts on the wing.

Italy may have lost 47-17 to New Zealand but they pushed the All Blacks hard before a Lorenzo Cannone red card ended their chances. Gonzalo Quesada, suspended from the touchline after falling foul of referee abuse last time out, has made nine changes from that defeat, with Tommaso Menoncello somewhat surprisingly out of the 23 altogether. Louis Lynagh, son of Wallaby legend Michael, will start on the wing with Monty Ioane on the opposite flank. Nacho Brex continues in the enter, with the tactical work coming from fly half Paolo Garbisi.

Read on as we explain how to watch Australia vs Italy for free in the 2026 Nations Championship.

How to watch Japan vs France for FREE: Live streams and TV channels for Nations Championship 2026

18 July 2026 at 08:00

Japan host France on Matchday 3 of Nations Championship 2026 as two sides with a win and a defeat thus far in the Southern Hemisphere Series meet in Tokyo. Fabien Galthie has rung the front row changes as Les Bleus seek to go into the holiday season on a positive win.

Eddie Jones, though, will love nothing more than bloodying the nose of a bigger boy. The Brave Blossoms opened the tournament with an impressive 27-10 win over Italy before a 36-20 loss to Ireland last weekend in which the Asian side performed creditably. Fly half Ryunosuke Ito will again start with his boot key to Japan performing top of many kicking metrics this tournament.

For France, Galthie has brought in Regis Montagne, Maxime Lamothe and Jefferson Poirot to the front row after declaring himself unsatisfied with the pack in the 42-26 drubbing of Australia last weekend. Though Les Bleus came close to beating New Zealand on opening weekend, they will have expected to have come out better from one win and a defeat. Maxime Lucu has impressed at scrum half in Antoine Dupont's absence. Matthieu Jalibert is in at full-back.

How to watch Vitality T20 Blast Finals Day 2026: Live stream online from anywhere

18 July 2026 at 08:00

Edgbaston once again plays host to T20 Blast Finals Day, and with the two semi-finals out of the way, it’s down to Northamptonshire and Hampshire to decide which former champion takes England's domestic T20 crown in 2026. Northants last won the competition in 2016, while Hampshire lifted their third title more recently, in 2022.

Northants are through to their first final since their 2016 triumph and arrive on the back of a thrilling semi-final victory over defending champions Somerset, winners of two of the last three editions. After being bowled out for a modest 143, skipper David Willey and fellow seamer Ben Sanderson stepped up with three wickets apiece to seal a 17-run victory.

Facing Northants will be Hampshire, who boast an in-form batting lineup, led by captain James Vince, who struck 125 against Essex in the quarter-finals before following it up with a crucial 59 against Nottinghamshire in the semi-finals. Alongside the international experience of Tristan Stubbs, Liam Dawson, and Chris Wood, plus Joe Weatherley (who hit 88 in the semi-finals) and Sonny Baker, the Hawks will be confident of clinching their fourth title in a record 12th Finals Day appearance.

How to watch New Zealand vs Ireland: Free Streams & TV Channels for Nations Championship 2026

18 July 2026 at 05:30

Rewind just a few years and the All Blacks vs Ireland was the foremost fixture in rugby. Although they've each won both of their Nations Championship 2026 games so far, neither side has convinced – and against lesser opponents to boot. Saturday's clash in Auckland, therefore, feels like an opportunity to silence some doubters.

New Zealand narrowly avoided an embarrassing defeat to France's reserves in their opener, before a comprehensive albeit ragged victory over Italy, while Ireland scraped past a crisis-stricken Australia before being pushed hard by Japan.

The redeeming factor from a Kiwi perspective is that those were their first two games under new coach Dave Rennie. Andy Farrell has no such excuse, and his men have shown little to challenge the suspicion that this Irish group has peaked.

They're back in New Zealand for the first time in four years, having recorded their first ever Test victory and series victory in All Blacks territory on their last visit. This time, they're looking to become the first team to beat the Kiwis at Eden Park in 52 years.

Will Jordan displayed his match-winning qualities last weekend with a hat-trick that saw him become New Zealand’s all-time leading try-scorer in Tests. Rennie is also looking to use inside information to his advantage, Jordie Barrett and Rieko Ioane having each enjoyed a recent stint with Leinster.

Read on as we explain how to watch New Zealand vs Ireland for free in the 2026 Nations Championship.

Goooool v goal: English speakers flock to Telemundo for lively World Cup coverage

The Spanish-language broadcaster has won over millions of US viewers with its energetic commentary during games

Soccer fans looking to watch the 2026 World Cup on US television have been presented with two very different options this tournament.

The first is Fox Sports, a cousin of Fox News owned by the same parent company and the sole network airing matches in English in the US. Audiences tuning in to Fox, which acquired the exclusive English broadcast rights in 2015, are met with coverage that reflects the network’s “America first” aesthetic, with promos for pro-Donald Trump talkshows, advertising breaks during games and the frequent, grating presence of host Alexi Lalas.

Robotaxis Are Turning Passengers Into Horrible and Entitled Menaces to Society

16 July 2026 at 16:57

Robotaxis are multiplying across the US, and as they do, a not-so-flattering pattern is riding shotgun. Not only do robotaxi companies themselves put a significant strain on public resources, they’re training the public to act just as entitled as they are.

As a recent article by Bloomberg points out, riders hopping into driverless cabs from Waymo, Tesla, and Zoox are treating driverless trips as a license to unwind.

With no human behind the wheel, riders feel like they have no social contract to follow. As a result, they’re turning robotaxis into trash cans, leaving behind spilled drinks, food scraps, and in some cases, bodily fluids like vomit for the next unlucky sap.

Granted, it’s probably easier said than done to clean a mess from a robocab once it’s been made: as one unfortunate Waymo rider discovered in May, the vehicles will sometimes speed off within seconds of dropping you off, even if you have bags in the trunk.

Others are using their robotaxi rides as roving sleep pods. It’s tough to say how common this particular behavior is, but Bloomberg notes that first responders in Austin, Texas got so many calls about dozing riders during Waymo’s first nine months in the city that they had to invent a new category just for “sleepers.”

Elsewhere, people are treating their self-driving cars more like party buses. In April, a Tesla driver was arrested after police found him passed out behind the self-driving wheel, having polished off a buffet of wine coolers and pizza before dozing off.

Sure, none of this will really affect you unless robotaxis are part of your daily commute. But as discussion around the robotaxi’s broader impact on society grows more urgent, it’s worth noting that hailing one seems to put you in a league with some of the worst riders currently in the game.

‘Keys to the kingdom’: hackers who gained access to heart of London transport network jailed

Thalha Jubair, 20, and Owen Flowers, 19, sentenced to five and a half years each for cyber-attack that cost Transport for London £39m

The data of millions of commuters was stolen, Londoners were left out of pocket and 27,000 Transport for London staff were forced to reset their passwords.

Over four days in 2024 a pair of teenage hackers had London’s transport network at their mercy. Thalha Jubair and Owen Flowers had burrowed into the heart of Transport for London’s IT systems and held the “keys to the kingdom”.

How to watch The Open 2026: Free Live Streams, TV Channels & Preview — Round 1

16 July 2026 at 04:00

Watch The Open 2026 live streams, as the oldest golf tournament in the world returns for its 154th staging, at the links of Royal Birkdale. Scottie Scheffler will defend his crown won 12 months ago, while Rory McIlroy and local favorite Tommy Fleetwood – born minutes away in nearby Southport – are also among the leading contender's for golf's original major.

After winning by four strokes at Royal Portrush in 2025, Scheffler is trying to become the first Open champion to successfully defend their crown since Padraig Harrington in 2008-09. Yet the world number one will be smarting from missing his first cut in 78 tournaments after failing to make the weekend at the Scottish Open a week ago. He'll tee it up with world number three Matt Fitzpatrick and 2024 champion Xander Schauffele.

Fleetwood is seeking to become the first English winner of the Claret Jug since Nick Faldo in 1992. He goes out in a stellar group with 2021 champion Jon Rahm and Jordan Spieth, who won the last time the tournament was held at Royal Birkdale in 2017. Further home hopefuls include Aaron Rai, the reigning PGA Champion, and Justin Rose who exploded as an amateur here in 1998.

Rory McIlroy will also fancy his chances. The two-time reigning Masters champion finished strongly at the Scottish Open last weekend, with a final-round 64.

Blessed with a beautiful art deco clubhouse, the course is a cracker and conditions are set to be warm, which will bring its own challenge of controlling the ball on a links course by the sea.

Read on for our guide on where to watch The Open 2026 online, on TV and potentially for free wherever you are. Scroll down for the Round 1 tee times.

Can you watch The Open 2026 for free?

The Open coverage is predominantly locked behind a paywall, but there are a couple of ways to watch some free live streams from Royal Birkdale.

The Open app (available via the Apple Store and Google Play) will show coverage from Featured Groups over the course of the four days.

That will focus solely on those particular three or four groups, though, so for more exhaustive coverage, you'll have to look elsewhere. In the US there are free trials available that will let you tune in for nothing.

The tournament is being shown on NBC and USA Network, which are both carried by YouTube TV (10-day free trial), DirecTV Stream (5-day free trial) and Hulu+Live TV (3-day free trial).

Alternatively, you can live stream The Open 2026 on Peacock for next to nothing by taking advantage of the Walmart Plus 30-day trial for $1.

In Australia, Kayo Sports has a 7-day free trial to watch the tournament.

England vs Argentina: World Cup semi-final

It doesn't get much bigger than this!

Here we go!

Welcome to Atlanta! It’s here in Georgia that we’ll see England’s biggest challenge so far (no offence, Panama): Argentina...

There’s history, big names and even bigger stakes. The winner will play Spain, who showed up for their semi final in a way that France definitely didn’t, in what promises to be an epic final.

So, who will emerge victorious? Keep tuned here to find out as we cover the game in the build up and every minute of action…

3/5 wins...to England?!

One of the other stats emerging to fill England fans with hope is that on the five occasions that England and Argentina have met the Three Lions have waked away victorious three times.

Albeit a few 1-0 victories aren’t the most thrilling wins but in knockout tournaments - as England have discovered - it doesn’t matter how you get there as long as you’re victorious at the end.

So will Argentina manage to chalk up a win to equalise the overall tally or will England lead 4-2?

How to watch the match

Get comfy, grab yourself some refreshments and stick with us here - to keep tuned for more updates as they come in - as it’s not too long to the game...

Rogers starting, Henderson not

Morgan Rogers is starting in the big changeup to the normal Starting XI.

Quansah with his red card is missing his second game today and Henderson with his injury is also missing out on the action.

Otherwise everyone is able to come on, but who will?

45 minutes to go...

In 45 minutes time we’ll see the kickoff of the decisive game which will determine the final!

Most pundits have it as a 50/50 tossup but with England’s track record - the only World Cup final they’ve been in is 1966 - you’d have to put Argentina in front.

Let’s hope this World Cup semi final will be less like 1990 and 2018 and more like 1966.

A semifinal like no other...hopefully for the right reasons

Local police have been told to watch this game in particular - with the highest danger warning issued of any World Cup game - due to the perceived temperature (in both senses) of the game.

With no major stories of fans letting themselves down this tournament, you really hope this won’t be the main story from the game but with the chequered history of both countries playing each other (we’ll get on to that later), that’s not a guarantee.

Let’s keep the drama on the pitch, eh lads?

30 mins to the game!

Settle down, everyone...it's nearly time!

A colourful history

The Falklands War. Hand of God. Beckham Red Card.

These three phrases are synonymous with England and Argentina when it comes to World Cups, and for good reason. However at the end of the game it’s football and the best team will win regardless of how important or unimportant this colourful history is.

Will we see another iconic moment that will rival Maradona’s two goals - one a blatant act of cheating and the other considered one of the greatest goals of all time? Will we see another player get sent off in shame like Beckham?

We’ll find out soon…

Messi v Kane/Bellingham

The one fact everyone is reeling out for this match is that Messi has never played England before. I guess we’ve also brought it up now.

The prospect of facing our squad will hardly be living in his head rent free but a few players may give him pause for thought. Kane and Bellingham.

Also in contention for the Golden Boot, although a few behind him, these England players are a threat in the box when it comes to trying to keep a clean sheet and see Argentina through to the second World Cup final in a row.

Who will come out on top?

Kick off!

Here we go!

Argentina kick off, strap in everyone...

Bellingham and Anderson pushed early doors

Argentina give Bellingham a friendly push just to let him know they're there.

And then Anderson taken down more brutally. Both sides square up in a tense start already.

Could be a scrappy one...

England take a corner

Rice, Arsenal's corner taker extraordinaire, takes one which misses the mark.

It's a high octane match already in terms of scrappiness and opportunities but let's see how it plays out.

Anderson is seemingly getting fouled left, right and centre in other news.

Anderson can't catch a break

Anderson has spent more time lying on the pitch than running around it at this point.

How long has the ball actually been in play?

20 mins in...

For a change, England are on the front foot. In a way that they haven't really since their opening Croatia 4-2 victory.

Will this last or will Messi have something to say about it.

Hydration break = boos aplenty

As reliable as showing Infantino on the screen in the first 10 minutes of every game (he must have it in his vain contract), are the boos that follow the start of the hydration break. And to be fair Infantino gets the boos too.

You sense Tuchel will be giving England a big talking to.

30 mins of play...and still 0-0

It's been a tense game and a lot of heated moments, but no goals to show either side.

A few chances but no goals on target yet. Will that change as Bellingham goes down for a free kick outside Argentina's box?

No bookings at all!

The ref has set the tone by issuing no yellows at all yet and you sense that the challenges from Argentina are only going to get worse.

This will do nothing to quell the narrative of Argentina favouritism.

Soon we'll see a big injury if this doesn't change.

The first yellow goes to Anderson

Some beautiful weaving and feet from Messi but he goes down after a challenge from Anderson.

And England get the first yellow!

Messi certainly has the favour of the referees although admittedly it was a bad challenge from Anderson but incredible England pick up the first booking.

Let's see how this develops.

(Belated) Argentina yellow card

And finally Argentina pick up a booking after Rogers receives some rough shirt pulling.

Hopefully this will calm the game down after a yellow on each side...time will tell.

Halftime whistle blows

How can that only be three minutes stoppage time? The ball's only been in play for three minutes.

It's been an end to end game with England looking stronger before the hydration break and Argentina looking better after the hydration break.

Both sides will be getting a pep talk from their manager and we'll see if that makes a difference in the second half.

It's a game of two halves

It's a cliche but it really is a game of two halves.

Both teams so far have given it 110% but will one team triumph in the second half or will it be extra time?

Goals win games but will it be England or Argentina?

England kick off the proceedings...before it gets retaken for going too quickly.

Back to the start.

Some testy moments early doors

England are on the back foot early doors here.

Pickford makes a save as an on target shot comes his way and then a scramble in the box but England defend.

Less of that please.

Romero gets booked...cos it's Romero

It's a worthy yellow card but Romero - the baby faced Tottenham assassin - does seem to rack up the bookings with his reputation proceeding him.

Argentina on the attack now.

Gordon's alive...and scores!!!

Anthony Gordon scores!

A beautiful assist from Rogers and finished by Gordon.

Eng 1-0 Arg

Spence makes an incredible tackle!

Just as important as Gordon's goal is Spence clearing the ball thanks to a beautiful tackle from Spence.

He's been electric this game.

Gordon's long awaited goal

There were questions about Gordon's Barcelona signing but he's silenced the critics after that.

Surprisingly he's only the fourth England player to score a goal this tournament after Kane and Bellingham dominating and one goal by Rashford.

Partially a mistake from Argentina's defence but also an incredible opportunity from England, seized upon and beautifully delivered.

England are purring now.

Pickford's razor sharp reactions!

For England, Jordan Pickford rarely puts a foot wrong. Or dare I say a hand?

Argentina's best shot so far and thanks to England's number one they are forced to regroup this hydration break.

Could this be England in a World Cup final for the first time since '66...let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Pickford makes another incredible save

Ice in his veins! Pickford fears no one as he makes another beautiful save.

Will he be able to stop the inevitable Argentina tide? Time will tell.

Kane gets a free kick!

A very tense affair as the England box is swamped this half of the hydration break but Kane gets the Three Lions a much needed free kicks.

England's defence hasn't been tested this much since Mexico and it's holding...so far.

Pickford makes a great save but can't save the second one

After a hand to the ball which may well have gone over the England goal resulting in a corner, Pickford isn't quick enough to save a sucker punch of a goal from Argentina.

Fernandez scores and saves Argentina from an early exit tonight.

2-1 Argentina

Argentina were on a high after their first goal and looking dangerous.

And that's when they scored their second goal. After the goalpost stops the first shot, nothing can stop a great header from Martinez.

Two goals in quick succession, can England do anything to stop the inevitable?

So close but yet so far

Argentina win and go against Spain for the World Cup final.

85 minutes until full time, and then Argentina strike.

Too defensive? Too complacent? Too many memories of '66?

Full time. Arg 2-1 Eng.

Too defensive in the last 30 minutes?

Rice taken off, Burn sent on. Were England just too defensive?

Pickford made some incredible saves but you can't stop the tide forever.

Argentina seem to have a knack for being down and then triumphing. Cape Verde equalised with them twice and they overcame it, Egypt looked like they were going to take it home and they came back.

England fell into a self confidence trap. They played a blinder but maybe England should have put on Saka instead of Burn.

In the end, the better team won

Once England have woken up, probably slightly hungover tomorrow, they will admit that Argentina were the better team.

To come back after 1-0 down so close to the end is remarkable and they looked threatening for most of the game.

It's back to square one as to whether we can win a final, bear in mind that the Euros 2028 will see 10 years since Kane has been captain and a few of the OGs still in the squad: Pickford, Stones, Henderson, Rashford. Will England refresh? Will Tuchel honour his contract to stay till 2028?

Hopefully yes to all of the above. So close, but yet so far - seemingly the England mantra at this point. Always the bridesmaid, never the bride.

Third Argentina final. Won one, lost one...where will Messi lead his next one?

2014 saw Argentina lose to Germany, 2022 saw Argentina win an incredible game against France. Where will 2026 take them?

England are sore but spotlight is now on Argentina. Stay tuned here for the World Cup final.

Spain v Argentina, it'll be a belter. Both teams are playing on top form so everything is to play for.

We'll see you then.

That's all, folks :(

A rather somber note to bid farewell on but thanks for staying with us through the pain we've become accustomed to as England fans.

Not the result we wanted, but very much the result we expected.

Gordon did us proud, as did Pickford who had the weight of the country on his shoulders for the last half hour of the game and made some incredible saves until it was too much for him.

Maybe we didn't come together as a team as we quite hoped but it looked for a second like we could make a second World Cup final. Anyway, onwards and upwards.

Thanks for joining us, make sure you stay tuned here where we'll be reporting on the action from the third place play off on Saturday at 10pm BST as England take on France in a rematch of the World Cup 2022 quarterfinals (that we lost).

And then the big one: Spain v Argentina on Sunday at 8pm BST. I've been Dan, thanks for joining us (commiserations or congratulations) and until next time...

It's (not quite) coming home etc
