Experimental Copper-Based Drug Clears Alzheimer’s Plaques and Boosts Memory in Mice

Using the APP/PS1 mouse model of familial Alzheimer’s disease, Pyun et al. investigated the effect of Cu(ATSM) on brain microvascular abundance and function of P-glycoprotein and the associated effects on exogenous amyloid-beta clearance, brain amyloid burden, and cognitive function. Copper diacetyl bis(4-methyl-3-thiosemicarbazone), or Cu(ATSM), restored a key waste-removal system in the brain, reducing toxic amyloid-beta buildup and improving spatial memory in lab models of Alzheimer’s disease, according to a team of researchers at Monash University.

New Menopause Drug Could Reduce Hot Flashes, Mood, and Anxiety

Menopause is a natural stage of life that marks the end of a woman’s reproductive years. It usually occurs between the ages of 45 and 55, although it can happen earlier or later. During this transition, the body produces lower levels of hormones such as estrogen and progesterone. These hormonal changes can trigger a variety […]

How Often Should You Fart? Study of 6,400 Australians Reveals the Surprising Answer

Flatulence is something that almost everyone experiences, yet very few people like talking about it. Many people laugh about farting, feel embarrassed when it happens in public, or try to avoid discussing it altogether. Despite its awkward reputation, farting is actually a normal and important part of healthy digestion. Without it, gas would build up […]

Scientists Discover How to Stop Harmful Inflammation Before Disease Starts

Inflammation is one of the body’s most important defense systems. When you cut your finger, catch a virus, or suffer an injury, inflammation helps the body heal and protect itself. In the short term, this response is useful and necessary. It helps fight infections, remove damaged cells, and support recovery. However, when inflammation continues for […]

This Common Sugar Substitute May Cause Brain and Heart Problems

A sweetener that is often advertised as a healthier replacement for sugar is drawing new attention from scientists. New research presented at the 2025 American Physiology Summit in Baltimore suggests that erythritol, a common sugar substitute found in many sugar-free foods and drinks, may have unwanted effects on the body. The findings suggest that it […]

Our body’s most abundant protein behaves like a liquid inside cells

Collagen is often described as the body’s natural scaffolding. It gives strength and structure to skin, bones, tendons, organs, and many other tissues. For decades, biology textbooks have shown collagen as a long, stiff, rod-shaped molecule. But a surprising new study suggests that picture is only part of the story. Researchers at the Center for […]

The Surprising Link Between Diabetes and Tooth Loss

When most people think about the complications of diabetes, they usually think about vision problems, kidney disease, nerve damage, or heart disease. Dentists and doctors, however, have long suspected that the disease may also have serious effects on the mouth. A major new study from Sweden now provides some of the strongest evidence yet that […]
