The Art of Authentic Photography | National Geographic

💾

Paid content for @ExploreCanada. What makes a photograph authentic? On a journey across scenic Canada, three National Geographic photographers explore how place, people, and stories can reveal deeper truths through the camera lens.

Kiliii Yüyan travels to Iceberg Alley, capturing the striking beauty of icebergs from above by helicopter. Matthieu Paley reflects on the diversity of the people he meets along the way, from musicians in Newfoundland to local communities, and shares how he photographs subjects in natural moments. Finally, Ami Vitale emphasizes the importance of listening, explaining how trust and connection can guide photographers toward the stories that matter most.

Their journeys reveal that authenticity isn’t something we create, it’s something we recognize when we’re present enough to see it. With its warm, welcoming people and nearly four million square miles of diverse landscapes, from epic mountains, forests, and lakes to prairies, tundra, and ice sheets, Canada offers endless opportunities for authentic exploration.

What is Regenerative Agriculture? | National Geographic

💾

Paid content for @waitroseandpartners. Healthy soil grows more than food; it grows the future. National Geographic photographer Matthieu Paley travels to the Waitrose Farm at the Leckford Estate to see how regenerative agriculture takes care of this precious asset through farming. As the only UK supermarket to operate its own working farm, Waitrose is committed to helping farmers transition to regenerative practices by 2030. But what exactly is regenerative farming? At its core, this technique treats soil as a living ecosystem that requires care. In the UK alone, 2 to 3 million tons of topsoil are lost every year, yet depending on the soil type, building just a single centimeter of topsoil can take 400 to 1,000 years. One key practice is the inclusion of something called an herbal ley, a field left to grow a rich mix of plants. These fields become self-sufficient, and even in dry summers, are able to provide food for grazing cows, rebuilding soil beneath the surface. When we care for the land, the land can care for us.

«No sufrí ningún daño a largo plazo», escribió Schmidt en su libro, The Sting of the Wild: The Story of the Man Who Got Stung For Science, «pero aprendí una lección importante: los insectos pueden defenderse».
