Low-temperature oxide-ion conduction in Aurivillius-type ((Na0.5Bi0.5)<i>n</i>–1Ti<i>n</i>O3<i>n</i>)(Bi2O2) phases

Nature Energy, Published online: 23 July 2026; doi:10.1038/s41560-026-02115-5

Solid oxide-ion conductors are essential for high-temperature electrochemical technologies, yet few materials maintain sufficient ion mobility at lower temperatures, where degradation is reduced and a broader range of materials can be used for auxiliary components. Here the authors introduce Aurivillius-type thin-film conductors that form periodic fast ion channels and achieve promising conductivity at 350 °C.

Managing the impacts of EU electric vehicle import tariffs

Nature Energy, Published online: 10 July 2026; doi:10.1038/s41560-026-02102-w

EU import tariffs on battery electric vehicles may not substantially hinder the overall electrification process but may substantially reduce adoption in vulnerable markets. These findings highlight the uneven implications of broad trade interventions and underscore the importance of complementary policies to support a resilient and inclusive transition.

Electron-Withdrawing Chemistry Drives Ultrafast-Charging Interphases for Sodium-ion Batteries

Energy Environ. Sci., 2026, Accepted Manuscript
DOI: 10.1039/D6EE01449F, Paper
Fu-Qiang Li, Zhichao Li, Dongfang Dong, Cheng Yang, Yu Liu, Yanfeng Gao
Fast charging and long-term cyclability in sodium-ion batteries are fundamentally limited by unstable, ion-transport-limited solid electrolyte interphases (SEI) arising from solvent-dominated Na⁺ solvation structures in conventional carbonate electrolytes. These intrinsic...
