BYD is deploying 2.4x more charging power per month than Tesla

BYD is building a charging network that makes Tesla’s Supercharger look slow β€” and it’s deploying it at a pace that could see it surpass Tesla’s global network within two to three years.

The Chinese automaker has already deployed over 5,700 Flash Charging stations in China in just a few months and just opened its first overseas stations in Europe. The chargers deliver up to 1,500 kW of power β€” three times what Tesla’s latest V4 Superchargers can do.

Drivers opening an EV charging app for the first time today will be presented with thousands of so-called β€œpublic” chargers at local car dealers. Once they arrive, however, the store’s customers, store hours, security gates, and Wild West pricing can turn what should be a routine charging stop into a frustrating ordeal. For first-time EV drivers, that doesn’t just reflect poorly on the dealer – it reflects poorly on the EV, itself. And we need to fix it.

UPDATE 05SEP2026: another Hyundai store, another $418 bill.
