XPeng starts IRON humanoid robot production as Tesla Optimus stalls

XPeng has switched on what it calls the world’s first automated production line for advanced humanoid robots, and its IRON robot walked off that line under its own power. The Chinese automaker says the line runs with more than 80% of its core processes automated.

Xpeng’s new L03 undercuts Tesla Model Y by up to $10,000 in Europe

Xpeng launched its new L03 electric SUV-coupe in Europe this week with a starting price of €34,990 β€” undercutting the Tesla Model Y by roughly €3,400 in Germany and by around $10,000 in Norway.

The pricing puts a well-equipped 4.65-meter electric SUV directly under Tesla’s best-seller in its highest-volume segment, and deliveries start in the fourth quarter.

XPeng L03 ships Google Maps Auto SDK β€” a first for an APAC automaker

XPeng used the global launch of its new L03 in Munich to announce that the electric SUV coupe is the first vehicle from any Asia-Pacific automaker to ship with Google Maps’ Auto SDK built in.

The integration replaces XPeng’s overseas navigation stack with Google Maps data and, more importantly, feeds map data into its NGP and XPILOT ASSIST driver-assistance systems outside China.

Xpeng spends $500M/year on AI training to beat Tesla FSD

Xpeng’s head of autonomous driving told Electrek that the company is spending roughly 300 million RMB (~$41 million) per month on AI training alone and believes it has already reached parity with Tesla’s FSD v13 β€” with v14 within reach before the end of summer.

I sat down with Dr. Xianming Liu, head of Xpeng’s General Intelligence Center, the day after he delivered a keynote at CVPR 2026 in Denver β€” sharing the stage with Tesla’s Ashok Elluswamy and leaders from Nvidia and Waymo at one of the world’s top computer vision conferences.
