Award-winning journalist Mariana van Zeller is getting a new nose. And new hair. And a full makeover. Not for a magazine spread, but because she's about to go undercover for the strangest assignment of her career. She's trying to intentionally get romance scammed.
In 2025 alone, romance scammers stole more than a billion dollars from American victims, and Mariana wants to know exactly how they do it.
Armed with a new identity and a freshly-built dating profile, she becomes the bait, setting off on a journey at times absurd and yet deeply human, in which she starts dating a four-star general deployed to Syria, gets wooed by "George Clooney," and teams up with a hacker who helps her locate several scammers, including her own.
Along the way, she exposes the tactics, the technology, and the psychology that have made these scams not just common, but nearly inescapable.

The Tranq Dope Underground - 00:00
Mariana investigates a deadly new fentanyl cocktail called "tranq dope" that's devastating American users. She's spent her career covering the deadly waves of the country's opioid crisis, but she's never seen it this bad. Seeking answers, she heads to Sinaloa, the heart of Mexico's cartel land, to get answers, and makes a shocking discovery.
LSD - 44:06
LSD is making a comeback because of the growing faith in its healing power. Underground therapy is booming, as the drug is used to treat abuse, depression and traumas of all kind. And yet, LSD remains 100% illegal, which is why the handful of chemists responsible for the world's supply remain a deeply-guarded secret. Mariana is on a mission to find one and to understand the secrets they keep.
MDMA - 1:28:08
An alarming message from her son's middle school about MDMA sparks Mariana to investigate. She follows the supply chain of "the love drug" from the clubs of LA back to its booming epicenter in the Netherlands, where a mob-infested underworld has recently murdered a well-known journalist. Is it possible that MDMA consumption in the U.S. is helping to turn the Netherlands into a narco-state?

Paid content for @ExploreCanada. What makes a photograph authentic? On a journey across scenic Canada, three National Geographic photographers explore how place, people, and stories can reveal deeper truths through the camera lens.
Kiliii Yüyan travels to Iceberg Alley, capturing the striking beauty of icebergs from above by helicopter. Matthieu Paley reflects on the diversity of the people he meets along the way, from musicians in Newfoundland to local communities, and shares how he photographs subjects in natural moments. Finally, Ami Vitale emphasizes the importance of listening, explaining how trust and connection can guide photographers toward the stories that matter most.
Their journeys reveal that authenticity isn’t something we create, it’s something we recognize when we’re present enough to see it. With its warm, welcoming people and nearly four million square miles of diverse landscapes, from epic mountains, forests, and lakes to prairies, tundra, and ice sheets, Canada offers endless opportunities for authentic exploration.
