49ers coach says his Tesla was on Autopilot when he crashed
Four weeks ago, San Francisco 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan was involved in an accident near downtown Palo Alto. At the time Shanahan said only that the accident was his fault. But during a recent press conference he shared more details about the incident, including the fact that he had his Tesla's Autopilot engaged at the time. Shanahan was not passing the buck, however, saying it was his fault regardless of whether or not Autopilot was engaged.
"I've had Autopilot for nine years, so I'm pretty comfortable with it and, you know, who knows what happened when I turned around? Whether it malfunctioned or whether I knocked it off? That's somethi …
Coming Soon: What’s Next on Apple TV and Apple Arcade in August 2026
It’s a big sports month for Apple TV, starting with Apple Arcade, which goes all-in on football with Madden NFL 27 Arcade Edition and Retro Bowl College+. On the Apple TV side, Ted Lasso returns for a fourth season, Formula 1 is coming out of its summer break, the MLS Leagues Cup begins, and MLB continues.
Let’s take a closer look.
Apple Arcade
Apple Arcade is adding two new games this month, both on Thursday, August 6, and both of them football games. That’s not a coincidence. The NFL and college football seasons are right around the corner, and these games offer great ways to get ready for both. They’re also part of a broader trend across Apple Arcade where sports games like NBA 2K26 and PGA TOUR Pro Golf, which also have continued receiving updates, have found a fan base.
Madden NFL 27 Arcade Edition (Release Date: August 6)

The headliner this month is Madden NFL 27 Arcade Edition, an all-new entry in EA’s long-running NFL franchise built specifically for Apple Arcade. The game includes Franchise and Quick Play modes, featuring current NFL player rosters and ratings that adapt to real-world performance. And as part of Arcade, the game cane be played across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, and Apple Vision Pro with controller support and no ads, paywalls, or in-app purchases.

Retro Bowl College+ (Release Date: August 6)
Source: Apple.
I’m a huge fan of retro-style games of any kind, and Retro Bowl College+ looks like another winner. I love the game’s chunky pixel vibe and depth. You can choose to act as the head coach of any of 250 college teams, recruiting players, managing your school’s athletic budget, dealing with player drama, and more. Who knew an 8-bit game could be packed with this much style and story?

Leagues Cup and MLS
Beginning August 4, the Liga MX clubs face off against 18 MLS clubs for the Leagues Cup. Phase One is 54 matches in nine days, from August 4–13, with quarterfinals August 25–27. This is the first edition to include matches in Mexico, and every match is on Apple TV. The MLS regular season games continue alongside the Cup, with midweek Leagues Cup games followed by weekend MLS matches.
That’s it for August. I’m personally looking forward to Ted Lasso and playing Madden NFL 27 Arcade Edition.

O jogo possui suporte a controle no iPhone, iPad, Mac e Apple TV.

Apple Sports app expands soccer coverage with new European and Asian leagues

Apple has rolled out a timely update to its free Apple Sports app, adding support for seven additional soccer leagues from across Europe and Asia. The refresh comes just one day after the conclusion of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where Argentina defeated Spain in the final.
Version 4.2 of the iPhone-only app now includes the following leagues:
• Belgian Pro League (Belgium)
• Superliga (Denmark)
• Eredivisie (Netherlands)
• J1 League (Japan)
• Ekstraklasa (Poland)
• Scottish Premiership (Scotland)
• Swiss Super League (Switzerland)
In addition to the new league support, users can now view team formations for matches across most soccer leagues in the app. This feature provides a clearer look at starting lineups and tactical setups, enhancing the experience for fans who want deeper insights into games.
The Apple Sports app, first launched in 2024, has steadily broadened its soccer offerings in recent months. Earlier updates added content tied to the 2026 World Cup, including team groupings and national team tracking with real-time scores, stats, and Live Activities. The app already covers dozens of top leagues and tournaments across multiple regions. This latest expansion continues Apple’s push to make the app a comprehensive hub for sports scores, standings, and match details without requiring a subscription. It remains exclusive to iPhone and is rolling out now to users worldwide.
MacDailyNews Take: Fans have already begun commenting on the update via Apple’s App Store and social media, with some requesting further additions like U.S. lower-division leagues. As soccer’s global popularity continues to grow, especially in the wake of a record 48-team World Cup, Apple appears committed to keeping the app competitive with dedicated sports platforms. The update is available immediately via the App Store here.

How to watch most of the World Cup matches with free trials
Hoping to catch some World Cup matches while spending as little money as possible? You have a few options for finding a few days of free streaming, although you may choose to eventually pony up some money. That, or get creative by combining multiple offers to make it through the whole tournament.
We found a handful of streaming services that are showing all of the World Cup matches. Most of these free trials require you to be a new subscriber, though you might just be able to use a different email address than before.
FuboTV
All FuboTV plans can stream every World Cup match, and each includes a five-day free trial for new members. The least expensive plan is $9.99 for the first month after the trial period, then $19.99 per month after that. Paying for one month after the trial should cover you through all (or most) of the finals, and is likely the least expensive way to watch every match.
My Best Buy Plus and Total members can claim an extended 30-day free trial, as long as they’re new to FuboTV.
Peacock
There’s a Peacock Premium Plus trial offer if you sign up using your Amazon account that will grant you seven days of free access before you’re charged $15.99 per month. I was able to access the offer on an Amazon account without Prime, but your mileage may vary.
We also found multiple ways to potentially claim free Peacock through other paid subscriptions. Some Xfinity Internet plans include Peacock Premium, which you can learn more about on the company’s support page. Walmart Plus members can claim either Peacock Premium or Paramount Plus Essential, but only one at a time, with a 90-day cooldown between switching.
YouTube TV
New YouTube TV subscribers can access a 10-day trial for the Sports plan, which includes Fox and 35 other networks. After the trial, the membership will renew for $54.99 per month for the first year, a $10 per month discount from the normal membership.
Fox One
The Fox One streaming service includes World Cup matches, and new subscribers can access a three-day free trial when signing up. After that, the plan costs $19.99 per month to continue watching, and includes both live and on-demand content from Fox.

With the World Cup looming, there’s still no clear replacement for sports Twitter
Three years ago, when the women's World Cup kicked off in Australia and New Zealand, my social feeds were in a strange place. Twitter had just transformed into X, newcomer Threads was seemingly ascendant, and places like Bluesky had yet to garner much momentum. It left me with an odd, and admittedly silly, dilemma: I had nowhere good to post dumb jokes during games. And now, as the next World Cup is set to begin across Canada, the US, and Mexico, not much has changed.
There were a lot of problems with Twitter even when it was at its most popular, but it also introduced a new kind of live experience for many. Its real-time nature and huge au …
