Researchers develop intelligent 3D twins of crime scenes

15 July 2026 at 15:00
A crime scene is often accessible only for a short period of time. During that time, all relevant evidence must be documented quickly, and even small details can prove crucial. Researchers at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office (BLKA) are working together to fundamentally transform this process. Using artificial intelligence, investigators will be able to interact with virtual representations of crime scenes.

Dataset filtering provides only limited protection against CSAM generation in text-to-image models, study finds

15 July 2026 at 14:40
Text-to-image models have made it significantly easier to generate synthetic images, including harmful and illegal content such as child sexual abuse material (CSAM). In public debates and policy discussions, a commonly proposed safeguard is to remove images of children from training datasets.

In game theory, generalists sometimes win out over specialists, finds research

Whether you're playing poker against a single opponent or find yourself in a bidding war over a home purchase with another prospective buyer, you are operating under conditions of imperfect information. You know what cards you're holding in the poker game, and you also know how much above the home's asking price you can afford, but you don't know your opponent's hand in the card game or how high the other home buyer is willing to go.

Bridging the gap between neuromorphic ionic computing and more efficient AI

15 June 2026 at 18:40
The human brain is the ultimate supercomputer. It uses a highly branched and interconnected network of neurons and synapses to achieve massive computational power with extreme efficiency. In the age of AI, the brain, a paradigm of efficient neuromorphic computing, is providing inspiration for scientists.
