When installing macOS 27 (Golden Gate), Rosetta is automatically removed. If you manage a fleet with any legacy Intel-only software still in use, you need a plan in place before your users start experiencing issues. Here is what I’m doing, and I have some thoughts on vendors who are waiting until the last minute to deploy Apple Silicon-native tools.

16 October 2026 at 20:00

It’s time to get your Halloween decorations out and automate them because the gear you buy for October is the same gear you’ll use in December. Set it up once now, and all you’ll do in November is swap what’s plugged into your gear. My first real Apple Home project years ago was automating Christmas lights, and it’s still the easiest win in your entire smart home, and it’s really one of the most useful things you can do.

It’s designed to look more like an extension of your iPhone case.

For my entire IT career, software updates have operated on a predictable schedule. IT administrators have been conditioned to build workflows around quarterly point releases or monthly patching cycles (Patch Tuesday). However, as AI tools become very proficient at automatically discovering software vulnerabilities, threat actors are moving faster than ever before. With that being said, I very much miss 18th-month macOS/OS X releases.

We are rapidly entering an era in which software updates will look less like traditional operating system updates and more like continuous cloud updates. To survive this shift, IT teams must understand the three prongs of modern patch management.

Apple recently confirmed it has capped the number of open vulnerability reports that researchers can submit through its portal, with a 30-day cool-down period once you hit that cap. The reason is that a surge in AI-generated bug reports is flooding the review pipeline. I understand the instinct, but I think it’s the wrong response at exactly the wrong moment.

MagSafe Monday: The TESSAN AERO 5000 brings a titanium finish to an ultra thin battery

10 August 2026 at 22:20

There are tons of MagSafe battery variations, and I may own most of them. The new TESSAN AERO 5000 caught my eye because it’s really thin and has a titanium finish. It also uses a new battery technology to reduce heat and improve overall safety. After reviewing the entire spec sheet, I think this might be one of the more interesting MagSafe batteries hitting the market this year, and I can’t wait to get my hands on one.

HomeKit Weekly: Why the Eve Weather sensor is a must-have for Apple Home automations in 2026

9 August 2026 at 19:26

Local weather is one of the most underrated variables to use in your Apple Home automation setup. Over the past few years, I have used sensors for everything from knowing when to drip faucets in freezing weather to adjusting the sprinkler schedule with the Eve Aqua on hot days. Eve Weather has been part of my setup for a while now, and with its Matter upgrade a few years ago, it is incredibly useful in my home.

Apple @ Work: What IDC’s latest shipments mean for the MacBook Neo and Air in the enterprise

Enterprise computer buying is currently going through an incredibly strange economic cycle. New PC shipment numbers from IDC show a divide across global deployment trends. On the one hand, actual device shipments are down nearly 5% across the industry. On the other side, overall manufacturer revenues are growing because prices are increasing across the board. Component shortages, driven largely by AI data centers (on top of worldwide government deficit spending), are consuming global memory allocations and resulting in major price increases across the industry. Yet, on top of this widespread industry downturn in shipments, Apple stands alone as the only major computer manufacturer posting shipment growth.

Just remember that you will need a dedicated Apple Home hub, like an Apple TV 4K or a HomePod, to access your devices remotely to take full advantage here.

When deploying digital signage across a corporate or retail environment, IT teams often face a choice between buying premium boxes like an Apple TV or saving money upfront with cheap Android devices. The new State of Digital Signage 2026 report from Kitcast provides compelling telemetry data on this exact situation, and the results clearly show that Apple TV is the superior choice for enterprise reliability (especially at scale).
